Role Overview
We are building an advanced Financial Wellness platform underpinning Norton Money, Norton 360, and LifeLock services. This involves managing bank connectivity, transactions, credit, identity protection, and a marketplace for financial products. The Lead Backend Software Engineer will architect and manage backend services for this platform ensuring secure, scalable, and compliant solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the ownership and development lifecycle of backend services supporting Financial Wellness products including design, implementation, operation, and monitoring using technologies like Java/Spring Boot, AWS, Postgres, and Kafka.
- Design, review, and maintain secure, versioned REST APIs and data contracts between internal and external systems to ensure seamless integration.
- Advocate for event-driven architecture principles and implement telemetry pipelines for financial events, offers, and alerts leveraging Kafka and schema governance.
- Ensure service reliability and performance by establishing SLOs, capacity planning, multi-availability zone resilience, conducting performance and endurance testing, and managing incident responses.
- Collaborate closely with Security, Privacy, and Legal teams to comply with regulations concerning personally identifiable information (PII), credit reporting, and other compliance requirements.
- Mentor engineers, oversee design reviews, and contribute to shaping the long-term technical roadmap for Financial Wellness backend systems.
Required Qualifications
- Proven proficiency in building and supporting backend services in Java using frameworks such as Spring Boot at scale in production environments.
- Hands-on experience with cloud-native AWS architectures including ECS/EKS/Fargate, RDS/Aurora, VPC, load balancers, web application firewall (WAF), S3, and Secrets Manager.
- Strong expertise in relational databases such as Postgres and at least one NoSQL database like DynamoDB or DocumentDB involving schema design and migrations.
- Experience with event streaming and messaging platforms like Kafka and crafting event-driven system designs.
- History of owning technical architecture decisions for products or domains, influencing cross-team strategies, and collaborating with senior leadership.
- Comprehensive understanding of secure software design encompassing authentication, authorization, principle of least privilege, PII management, and audit compliance.
Preferred Skills
- Background in financial services domains including financial wellness, embedded finance, banking, credit products, or identity and privacy platforms.
- Familiarity with serverless components such as API Gateway, Lambda, Step Functions, DynamoDB, Redis as well as AI platform integrations like Bedrock or Strands agents.
- Knowledge of observability tools like Datadog, Dynatrace, or Sumo Logic and experience defining service-level objectives (SLOs) and alerts.
Technology Stack Overview
- Languages & Frameworks: Primarily Java with Spring Boot, some Node.js, Kotlin, and Python for AWS serverless and AI services.
- Data & Messaging: PostgreSQL (RDS/Aurora), DynamoDB, DocumentDB, Redis/ElastiCache, Kafka/MSK, BigQuery, and proprietary analytics platforms.
- Infrastructure & Observability: AWS, ECS Fargate, API Gateway, WAF, Terraform, CloudWatch, Datadog, Dynatrace, and Sumo Logic.
