About the Role
We are searching for a seasoned Lead Process Engineer to assume technical leadership for process engineering functions at a vital gas processing support facility located in Al Khor, Qatar. This facility supports operations linked to the North Field, the largest natural gas field worldwide. The successful candidate will spearhead operational advancements, back major projects, and provide expert guidance across the site.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the process engineering team by setting technical priorities and supervising daily engineering support and project-related activities.
- Continuously assess plant performance to pinpoint opportunities for improving throughput, energy usage, and product quality.
- Collaborate with operations personnel to diagnose process and operational challenges and deliver effective engineering recommendations.
- Create, maintain, and revise both steady-state and dynamic process simulation models utilizing Aspen HYSYS or similar process simulation tools.
- Examine and authorize Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), heat and material balances, along with process datasheets.
- Implement process optimization and continuous enhancement initiatives aimed at elevating plant reliability, safety standards, and operational effectiveness.
- Work closely with operations, maintenance, health, safety, and instrumentation teams to overcome process issues.
- Serve as the principal process engineering liaison for contractors, consultants, and technology licensors during project phases.
- Review engineering calculations, technical documentation, and design outputs to confirm accuracy and adherence to standards.
- Provide mentorship and technical support to junior engineers contributing to their growth and skill development.
Candidate Requirements
- Possess a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or a closely related area; a Master’s degree is advantageous.
- Have at least 10 years’ experience in process engineering within sectors such as gas processing, LNG, refining, or petrochemicals.
- Hold minimum 4 years of experience in leadership or senior process engineering roles, including team supervision.
- Exhibit advanced skills in Aspen HYSYS for both steady-state and dynamic process simulation; familiarity with UniSim is beneficial.
- Possess deep technical understanding of gas processing operations including acid gas removal, gas dehydration, NGL recovery, and sulfur recovery processes.
- Demonstrate proven capabilities in monitoring plant performance, optimizing processes, troubleshooting, and providing operational support.
- Have participated in process safety evaluations such as HAZOP, HAZID, LOPA, and SIL assessments.
- Strong knowledge of process design documentation including PFDs, P&IDs, heat and material balances, and datasheets.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, communication, and technical reporting skills.
- Proficient in written and spoken English at a professional level.
- Experience working in Qatar or GCC countries is preferable.
- Exposure to LNG trains, offshore gas processing, or large-scale gas production operations is a plus.
- Holding Chartered Engineer status or equivalent professional accreditation is an additional advantage.
