About the Role

The Lead for Pandemic Sciences Collaborative will report directly to the Director of Special Programs Collaboratives. This role drives engagement with partners and youth to ensure the successful rollout of the Mastercard Foundation's health initiatives, including the Pandemic Sciences and Public Health and Primary Health Care Collaboratives. The position focuses on nurturing strong partnerships that promote youth-centered health initiatives throughout Africa.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in designing and implementing the Higher Education Pandemic Sciences Collaborative.
  • Develop collaborative proposals with potential partners within the collaboratives.
  • Work closely with teams across Special Programs, Education and Transitions, and other Foundation units to bolster partnerships.
  • Guide and support partners on project implementation, monitoring, and learning to guarantee quality outcomes across the portfolio.
  • Help organize and manage governance frameworks within the collaboratives.
  • Coordinate monthly or quarterly partner meetings to maintain high implementation standards.
  • Plan and facilitate both in-person and virtual convenings.
  • Collect, analyze, and report data and insights regularly to drive informed program adaptations.
  • Interpret partner feedback to enhance program development and promote continuous improvement.
  • Encourage connectivity, knowledge sharing, and learning across the regional program portfolio.
  • Build and maintain strategic relationships with stakeholders to enhance impact.
  • Support partners in ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all program participants.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in health, public policy, international development, social sciences, or a related discipline.
  • Master’s degree in a health-related field is advantageous.
  • Relevant professional certification and membership in recognized professional bodies.
  • At least ten years of experience in a similar professional environment.
  • Proven experience collaborating with faculty, civil society, governments, private sector and youth.
  • Strong track record of managing multiple projects and delivering results in dynamic, fast-moving settings.
  • Experience in designing and implementing health, science, or leadership programs tailored for youth across Africa.
  • Background in global grant-making is preferred.
  • Experience working cross-culturally and across geographies is essential; residence and work experience in Africa is highly valued.

  • Fluency in English and knowledge of relevant local languages.
  • Understanding of health education and youth employment challenges in Africa.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Experience supporting inclusion of marginalized youth populations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Outstanding interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team and demonstrate high emotional intelligence.
  • Entrepreneurial approach with a strong service focus aligned with organizational values.
  • Results oriented with capacity to prioritize tasks effectively in fast-paced contexts.
  • Balance tactical execution with strategic planning.
  • Deep commitment to youth empowerment, inclusion, innovation, co-creation, humility, and continuous learning.
