Position Overview
The Lead Mermaid Performer is a pivotal role responsible for delivering exceptional underwater mermaid shows and related guest experiences. This role entails leading by example and providing guidance to the Mermaid team, ensuring high standards in performance quality, safety, professionalism, and customer engagement. The Lead Mermaid assists the Head Mermaid with training, show preparations, operational planning, and program enhancements to maintain a consistent and memorable experience for guests.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform mermaid roles involving underwater shows, meet-and-greets, and themed events with grace and safety.
- Execute choreographed and improvised swimming routines using a mermaid tail.
- Participate actively in rehearsals, costume fittings, and promotional campaigns.
- Maintain physical fitness and adhere strictly to water safety protocols and emergency procedures as instructed.
- Follow all operational policies outlined in the Atlantis Dubai Dive Operations Manual.
- Support maintenance and cleanliness of costumes and equipment.
- Assist with daily operational tasks including show readiness, tail and prop care, and quality standards compliance.
- Support guest-facing activities such as Dolphin Meet and Greet, Shark Lagoon activations, and photography opportunities.
- Possibly oversee specific areas like makeup, costume upkeep, choreography, inventory, or training assistance as delegated.
- Document and report any equipment issues promptly.
- Maintain dive logs and respect confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Ensure a safe, healthy environment for colleagues, guests, and animals alike.
- Attend required meetings and training sessions.
- Demonstrate strong professionalism, reliability, work ethic, and positive influence within the team.
- Contribute to training and development of junior staff and trainees.
- Support the Head Mermaid in upholding show quality, guest engagement, and daily readiness standards.
- Perform other related duties as requested by management.
Candidate Profile
- Between 2 to 5 years of relevant experience in mermaid or aquatic performance, guest entertainment, synchronized swimming, freediving, diving, dance, theatre, or related fields.
- At least 1 year of experience coaching, mentoring, or supporting operational or performance standards preferred.
- Certification as a freediver and recognized mermaid qualification mandatory.
- Must pass an annual swim proficiency test and dive medical assessments.
- Ability to hold breath underwater for prolonged periods and perform in a monofin or mermaid tail under various water temperatures.
- Comfortable engaging audiences of all ages including children.
- Strong endurance for repetitive underwater movements and extended costume wear.
- CPR, First Aid, and lifeguard certifications are required or candidates must be willing to obtain them.
- Physical ability to lift or carry costume-related equipment up to approximately 25 pounds.
- Fluency in English for delivering guest programs, safety briefings, and team communication.
- Willingness to work flexible hours including weekends, holidays, and evenings.
- Exhibits mature, responsible, and safety-conscious behavior and maintains professionalism and confidentiality.
- Comfortable working closely with aquatic animals.
