We are seeking a Lead Electrical Engineer to join our Design Delivery Organization (DDO) across Waterloo and the GTA offices. This senior role involves collaborating on diverse electrical engineering projects encompassing new installations, system upgrades, testing, commissioning, and providing construction support, specifically for water and wastewater treatment facilities, industrial plants, solid waste, and non-utility power generation within municipal and industrial sectors.

This position thrives in a hybrid work culture, blending on-site collaboration three days a week with flexible remote options, allowing you to connect and contribute effectively within a high-energy team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a technical authority and mentor for junior and intermediate electrical engineers across multiple projects.

  • Support client relationship management and contribute to business development activities.
  • Manage multiple complex projects ensuring quality, budget adherence, and schedule milestones.
  • Lead electrical project teams through all phases—from condition assessments and client workshops to value engineering, design presentations, and technical decision-making.
  • Conduct electrical-focused meetings to discuss design options, system performance, and project specifications with clients.
  • Supervise and mentor electrical staff, fostering professional growth and excellence on the team.
  • Prepare detailed electrical design packages for various systems including utility interconnection, power distribution (LV/MV), motor control, standby power, instrumentation and control, building services, fire alarm, security (CCTV and cameras), PA systems, DC systems and UPS, grounding, and equipment layouts.
  • Complete and review electrical design calculations ensuring technical rigor and accuracy.
  • Develop contract documentation such as specifications, cable/conduit schedules, installation guidelines, procurement documents, sub-contractor scope, bill-of-materials, and process narratives.
  • Conduct technical review and quality assurance of design documents, providing professional sealing.
  • Offer technical support during tendering and construction phases including managing RFIs, reviewing shop drawings, evaluating electrical reports (short circuit, device coordination, arc flash, ground potential rise, harmonics), conducting site inspections, preparing test plans, change order assessments, and attending project meetings.
  • Coordinate with other engineering disciplines, vendors, and design teams to ensure electrical systems integrate smoothly.
  • Ensure compliance with Canadian electrical codes, industry standards, and liaise with clients and regulatory bodies for approvals.

Candidate Profile

  • Bachelor of Applied Science in Electrical Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registered with the Professional Engineers of Ontario.
  • A minimum of 15 years’ experience designing and implementing medium and low voltage electrical systems, with substantial knowledge of field instrumentation.
  • Proven ability to lead large-scale engineering projects, especially water and wastewater treatment plant projects and municipal collaborations.
  • Experienced in supervising electrical project teams and driving the technical development of electrical discipline.
  • Skilled in managing client relationships, handling scope changes, and governing project schedules and budgets on complex engineering assignments.
  • Strong command of Canadian electrical codes, standards, and regulations, including safety strategies and protection system theories.
  • Excellent analytical capabilities, meticulous attention to detail, and judicious problem-solving skills.
  • Self-driven with a keen eagerness to learn continuously.
  • Highly organized multitasker who thrives in dynamic environments, equipped with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Effective team player able to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary groups.
