Role Overview
The Lead Data Scientist will spearhead the establishment and growth of data-driven capabilities within manufacturing operations. This key position is responsible for delivering impactful analytics and machine learning solutions, defining the data science function, and setting standards and roadmaps. As the inaugural data science hire in the region, you will drive digital transformation across wafer fabrication, assembly, and test operations by blending deep technical knowledge, manufacturing domain expertise, and strong cross-functional collaboration.
Primary Responsibilities
- Develop and implement the data science and AI strategy in alignment with business goals by collaborating with process, equipment, and integration engineering teams to operationalize data insights and promote data-driven decision-making.
- Set best practices for data acquisition, preparation, modeling, and deployment, including building scalable data pipelines to ingest, transform, and integrate manufacturing, sensor, and tool data.
- Create models addressing manufacturing challenges such as predictive maintenance, yield and quality optimization, demand forecasting, and process enhancement.
- Utilize statistical analysis, machine learning, and artificial intelligence techniques to extract actionable business insights.
- Facilitate the adoption of AI and ML in manufacturing using existing internal platforms and identify further tools for Industrial IoT analytics, computer vision, and scheduling optimization.
- Define and monitor success metrics like yield improvement, cycle time reduction, equipment uptime, and cost savings to measure the ROI of data science initiatives.
- Design, deploy, and manage production-grade machine learning models with techniques such as MLOps, including ongoing model monitoring, drift detection, and lifecycle management.
Additional Responsibilities
- Champion a culture driven by data throughout the organization.
- Identify and promote scalable data platforms and tools such as cloud solutions, IoT, and edge analytics when applicable.
- Work closely with IT engineering to define data architectures and pipelines, enhancing data quality and accessibility.
Qualifications and Competencies
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- 5 to 8+ years of professional experience in data science or machine learning, preferably within semiconductor or manufacturing sectors.
- Strong programming expertise in Python and R (or equivalent languages).
- Proficiency with machine learning frameworks such as scikit-learn, TensorFlow, and PyTorch.
- Advanced skills in data analysis, statistical process control, and experimental design methodologies like DOE.
- Experience with time-series data analysis from sensors and machines, predictive maintenance modeling, and process optimization techniques.
- Competency in handling and cleansing large datasets.
- Excellent attention to detail, analytical thinking, and problem-solving capabilities.
- Effective communication skills across departments and ability to engage multiple stakeholders.
