Lead Cyber Security Engineer

Overview

Mater Private Network, located in Dublin City Centre, is looking for a seasoned technical lead to join their dedicated cybersecurity team. This hybrid role requires a minimum of three days onsite and reports directly to the Group CISO. The appointed candidate will spearhead security engineering initiatives, enhance the organisation’s cybersecurity framework, and serve as the main technical liaison with the managed security service provider (MSSP).

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee end-to-end security engineering projects from design and deployment to operational handover.
• Create, document, and uphold the organisation's information security architecture working alongside the CISO and IT departments.
• Lead secure system configuration and hardening efforts for Microsoft Active Directory, Group Policy, M365, Azure AD, and associated services.
• Collaborate with IT teams to architect and sustain secure application and network environments, emphasizing segmentation and zero-trust strategies.
• Champion advancements in identity and access management (IAM), privileged access management (PAM), endpoint defense, email security, and cloud security with a focus on Azure.
• Evaluate current and forthcoming projects, technologies, and services from a security perspective and offer technical advice backed by risk assessment.
• Prioritize, monitor, and address issues arising from security testing and audit outcomes.
• Serve as the escalation point for MSSP/SOC and various security providers.
• Partner with MSSP/SOC teams to refine threat detections and enhance visibility and logging across both on-premises and cloud setups.
• Assist the CISO during major security incidents by delivering technical analysis and remediation guidance.
• Coordinate with IT operations to ensure persistent alignment and effectiveness of security controls amid environmental changes.
• Offer technical security insights to project groups, solution architects, and IT personnel.
• Mentor and support other security engineers and analysts with the goal of raising the technical proficiency within the team.

Required Experience & Skills

• A minimum of 8 years in IT with at least 4 years dedicated to cybersecurity roles.
• Established experience in infrastructure or system administration (Windows, networking, or cloud) advancing into security engineering.
• Expert knowledge of Microsoft AD, Group Policy, Microsoft 365, and Azure AD.
• Comprehensive understanding of networking, firewall mechanics, secure network design, and segmentation.
• Sound grasp of secure architectural and design principles such as defence in depth, least privilege, zero-trust, and secure-by-default configurations.
• Proven capability to manage technical security projects and conduct thorough security audits and assessments.
• Strong analytical and autonomous problem-solving abilities within a compact team environment.
• Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal, tailored for technical discourse.

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with security standards and frameworks like NIST, CIS Benchmarks, ISO 27001.
• Experience within healthcare or similarly regulated sectors is advantageous.
• Relevant certifications such as CISSP, CCSP, AZ-500 preferred but practical experience is prioritized.
• Skills in scripting or automation, for example PowerShell or Python, to enhance security operations and configuration efficiency.
• Knowledge of designing and applying controls for AI technologies such as generative AI, software agents, and AI-driven SaaS functionality.
