Lead Applied Scientist

Opportunity Overview

Join Cohere Health as a Lead Applied Scientist and become an integral part of a dynamic team composed of top applied scientists and clinical professionals. Your mission will be to develop and deploy machine learning models designed to reduce the administrative workload in clinical settings.

The Applied Science team focuses on designing cutting-edge algorithms, creating prototypes, and collaborating with AI Engineering to bring machine learning models into production to extract and predict vital clinical data from both structured and unstructured sources.

Key Responsibilities

• Create and implement sophisticated machine learning models for tasks including data retrieval, classification, and generative applications.
• Develop and maintain reusable codebases for data preparation, model training, and assessment.
• Offer scientific insight and machine learning best practice mentorship to junior engineers.
• Collaborate closely with stakeholders such as product managers, clinicians, and technical leaders to ensure alignment of ML solutions with Cohere’s strategic goals.

Required Qualifications

• At least seven years of applied machine learning experience with a master's degree or over five years with a PhD, preferably in leadership roles within technology or healthcare sectors.
• Strong grasp of model development, upkeep, and optimization techniques for production environments.
• Proficiency in experimental design and capable of independently executing data collection, evaluation, and interpretation.
• Expert-level skills in Python programming including experience with deep learning frameworks like PyTorch.
• Proven background in developing deep learning models such as transformers for natural language processing.
• Holding a Master’s or Doctorate degree is mandatory.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with generative AI and Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) techniques.
• Familiarity with handling unstructured healthcare data, especially clinical notes.
• Exposure to OCR technology and image-based document analysis methods.
• Hands-on experience with AWS tools, including SageMaker Studio.

Information Security Management Responsibilities

• Well-versed in information security best practices.
• Support management in implementing and maintaining information security measures.
• Ensure team members are competent in relevant information security areas.
• Oversee adherence to security policies and promptly report concerns to the Information Security Manager.

Additional Information

• Location: Hyderabad, Telangana; candidates must either reliably commute or be willing to relocate prior to starting.
