Job description

About Bridgit

Bridgit is a pioneering non-bank lender revolutionizing how Australians access property equity. Our flagship "Buy Now, Sell Later" product allows homeowners to unlock equity easily with digital applications, fast approvals, and flexible loans. With over five years in the market, we have partnered with major aggregators and earned multiple fintech awards for growth and innovation.

Role Overview

As Lead AI Engineer, you will architect and develop ATLAS, our multi-agent orchestration platform that integrates AI throughout our lending products. This hands-on leadership role requires you to define the core AI patterns, write production-level code, and guide a skilled team while setting engineering standards and AI integration best practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor a small team of engineers building Bridgit's multi-agent orchestration platform, steering technical decisions and architecture reviews.
  • Design and implement AI platform architecture, including robust Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines aligned with security and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop API-driven integrations between AI systems, databases, and external enterprise tools.
  • Engineer sophisticated memory systems from short-term caches to vector stores and develop advanced knowledge graphs for entity- and relationship-aware context grounding.
  • Establish multi-agent communication protocols ensuring reliable message exchanges, state sharing, and conflict resolution.
  • Implement thorough evaluation loops, logging, and guardrails to prevent model issues such as hallucinations or infinite loops.
  • Build secure sandboxes for remote development and continuous integration testing, enforcing strict security and data privacy compliance.
  • Embed AI governance controls ensuring reproducibility, traceability, and quality monitoring in accordance with Bridgit's AI Governance Framework and Risk Appetite Statement.
  • Standardize and maintain AI development tools integrating organizational and individual preferences, monitoring usage, reliability, and costs.
  • Promote a "shift-left" development culture by actively mentoring software and AI engineers to enhance productivity and code quality using AI-enabled workflows.

Candidate Profile

  • Over 6 years of experience in AI/ML engineering, MLOps, or data science within regulated fintech or fast-growth tech sectors.
  • Expertise in modern AI architectures and experience building agentic AI systems incorporating tool use, orchestration, routing, memory, multi-agent frameworks, and interoperability protocols like LangGraph, Semantic Kernel, or AutoGen. Familiarity with open-source frameworks like Agno is a plus.
  • Strong background in knowledge graph creation and graph-based retrieval techniques (e.g., GraphRAG) for context-aware AI.
  • Proficiency in developing evaluation frameworks for assessing model quality, grounding, safety, latency, and operational costs.
  • Experience deploying AI solutions in production environments with focus on cost efficiency, scalability, observability, security, and governance.
  • Solid understanding of software engineering principles, architecture, and delivery best practices.
  • Hands-on experience managing the full ML lifecycle including model evaluation, drift and bias monitoring, vector databases, and inference optimization. Knowledge of graph databases is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with AI safety and risk frameworks such as NIST AI Risk Framework and ISO 42001.
  • Strong communication skills with ability to convey complex architectural concepts and risks to cross-functional teams, advocating for secure, scalable, and accessible solutions.

Bridgit Work Culture & Benefits

  • Additional leave entitlements including birthday leave and an extra paid day for personal events or mental health.
  • Opportunity to work remotely from any location for two weeks annually.
  • Encouragement and support for ongoing professional development with internal learning programs.
  • Regular social events fostering team engagement and community.
