Job description

About the Role

We are seeking a Lead Advisor or Senior Advisor to join the Sourcing and Commercial Management team within the Commercial Services unit of the Ministry of Justice in Wellington. Reporting to the Manager of Sourcing and Commercial Management, this senior ICT procurement specialist position is focused on overseeing complex digital and technology sourcing projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end complex sourcing activities, managing the entire process independently.
  • Provide strategic commercial leadership on contract variations and Statements of Work, negotiating to balance risk, deliverables, and protect the Ministry’s interests.
  • Offer high-impact advisory support aligned with digital partners’ direction to implement commercial changes effectively.
  • Analyze market trends to anticipate supplier business directions and source innovative solutions.
  • Conduct complex negotiations with senior stakeholders ensuring maximum value from expenditures.
  • Mentor and develop team members and stakeholders while expanding personal expertise to contribute positively to the community.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Procurement, commercial, or legal background and/or qualification.
  • Expertise procuring cloud services, SaaS, managed services, and integration with digital investment and architectural decision-making.
  • Understanding of data privacy, security, and interoperability in sourcing.
  • Ability to identify and leverage business opportunities by evaluating market trends, financial impacts, and strategic drivers influencing the Ministry’s direction.
  • Extensive contract management and negotiation experience with a solid grasp of legal terms, risk mitigation, and compliance.
  • Strong customer focus with proactive problem-solving for stakeholders.
  • Supportive team player fostering an inclusive, approachable working environment.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Government Procurement Rules and their application in complex contexts.
  • Commitment to the principles of te Tiriti o Waitangi.

Compensation and Application

The salary ranges from NZD 130,129 to 179,192 for Lead Advisor and NZD 99,208 to 135,539 for Senior Advisor roles, based on experience and skills.
