Job Overview
The Laundry Attendant is responsible for maintaining the efficient operation and upkeep of the laundry department. This role requires familiarity with all laundry equipment and their proper use. The incumbent will collaborate closely with Housekeeping and Patient Care Assistants to ensure timely and adequate delivery of inventory to the patient floors.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop appropriate washing methods tailored for stained and soiled personal patient clothing and linens.
- Sort dirty laundry items by type, including patient clothes and linens.
- Ensure that all clothing and linens meet quality standards before being placed into inventory.
- Report any maintenance or service issues related to laundry equipment to the relevant personnel.
- Recommend ways to improve laundry operational efficiency.
- Organize and categorize patient clothes and linens by type, loading them onto carts or into bags for return to patient rooms or neat storage on linen racks.
- Fold clothing, linens, and terry cloth items neatly and professionally.
- Work within a fast-paced environment under strict timing and production standards.
- Maintain flexibility to work during evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
- Display a positive, outgoing, and friendly demeanor towards clients and team members.
- Manage simultaneous washing loads using various machines and products.
- Ensure sufficient linen quantities are consistently available for distribution on client floors to prevent shortages.

- Capable of working both independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Experience prioritizing duties effectively in a dynamic environment.
- Ability to tolerate working with patients who have medical or behavioral challenges.
- Ability to accept instructions from various supervisors during shifts.
Educational and Physical Requirements
A secondary school diploma is preferred. Physical demands include standing for extended periods and lifting or carrying up to 40 pounds. Duties may require stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
Experience
Prior experience in laundry or dry cleaning, preferably within a clinical or facility environment, is desired.
Work Environment and Location
This full-time position is onsite in Scarborough, Ontario, Canada. The role may require flexible schedules including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
