About the Role
Join BrightView Landscapes as a Landscaper I providing essential landscape maintenance for diverse industrial, commercial, and public properties. You'll handle fundamental landscaping activities under guidance, ensure the safe use of professional landscaping tools, and support the upkeep of plants and other landscape elements.
Key Responsibilities
- Mow grass using various powered mowers, including trimming and edging with gas-powered tools such as edgers and blowers.
- Prune shrubs and small trees for shape enhancement or to remove damaged branches.
- Plant and tend to flowerbeds and related landscape features.
- Operate edgers and trimmers around sidewalks, flower beds, buildings, fences, and trees.
- Collect trash and blow leaves and organic material onto turf before mowing.
- Mulch leaves and organic debris during mowing activities.
- Weed manually or with garden tools like hoes.
- Carry out basic preventive maintenance on landscaping equipment to prolong usability.
- Remove trash, dead plants, and suckers properly from landscaping areas.
- Maintain a courteous, friendly, and responsive attitude when interacting with clients and guests.
- Report any unsafe work conditions promptly to the Crew Leader.
Qualifications and Experience
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Dependable and enthusiastic about landscaping work.
- Knowledgeable in operating power equipment like saws and cutters safely.
- Certification on level 1 landscaping equipment including backpack blowers, stick edgers, string trimmers, and walk-behind mowers.
- Basic understanding of horticultural maintenance practices and procedures.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs. (e.g., mulch, fertilizer).
- Capable of loading and unloading plant materials up to 50 lbs.
- Strong stamina for working outdoors in varying weather, including heat and cold extremes.
- Physically able to bend, stop, twist, and perform manual labor continually using hand tools (e.g., shovels, rakes).
- Willingness to wear required personal protective equipment like safety shoes, high-visibility apparel, and hand/eye/hearing/head protection.
- Valid driver's license and acceptable motor vehicle record required for operating company vehicles (age restriction 21+ for vehicle operation).
- Flexible work hours including potential weekend and holiday shifts.
- Ability to carry necessary medication for known allergies at all times.
Work Environment
- Exposure to outdoor environments in moderate to extreme weather (temperature range below 32°F up to over 100°F).
- Work under direct sunlight for extended durations.
- Proximity to traffic, water bodies, dirt, fumes, noise, and mechanical or electrical risks.
- Presence of loud noise, allergens (like pollen), insects, and reptiles common in landscaping settings.
