This newly established position is responsible for managing and coordinating the Kanban replenishment system across various Austal sites in Western Australia. The role is essential in ensuring that production teams have uninterrupted access to necessary consumables and materials to support ongoing operations.
This multi-location role demands regular inter-site travel, making a valid manual driver's licence a requirement. While the primary focus is Kanban system oversight, the role also encompasses practical warehouse responsibilities including all standard warehousing activities and providing support to the Warehouse and Logistics team based on operational demands.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and sustain Kanban replenishment systems at multiple Austal facilities.
- Track stock consumption and replenish materials and consumables to meet agreed service standards.
- Conduct regular visits to Austal sites for inventory inspection, replenishment, and maintenance of Kanban stock.
- Monitor stock levels and promptly report shortages or issues.
- Maintain precise inventory records via timely updates in the IFS system.
- Perform stock audits including cycle counts and investigate any inventory discrepancies.
- Support the setup and refinement of Kanban systems for both existing and new locations.
- Collaborate closely with production, procurement, material planning, and warehouse personnel to ensure material availability.
- Identify and suggest improvements in inventory accuracy, replenishment procedures, and material flow.
- Receive goods and verify them against purchase orders.
- Handle loading and unloading of deliveries using appropriate material handling equipment.
- Manage warehouse tasks such as put-away, storage, picking, packing, dispatch, and internal transfers.
- Process store ticket requests and assist with warehouse calibration processes and related inventory movements.
- Deliver operational support within the Consumable Store and carry out general warehouse duties across Austal locations as required.
- Comply with Austal’s safety, quality, and environmental regulations.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Previous experience in warehousing, inventory control, or stock replenishment roles.
- Possession of a current High Risk Work Licence for forklift operation.
- Valid manual driver's licence is mandatory.
- Possession of a valid White Card.
- Willingness and ability to travel regularly between sites.
- Experience with ERP or inventory management systems; familiarity with IFS is highly preferred.
- Knowledge of inventory accuracy techniques, FIFO protocols, cycle counting, and safe handling practices.
- Strong organisational, communication, and time management capabilities.
- Ability to manage shifting priorities efficiently in a fast-paced operational setting.
- A proactive mindset towards safety, customer service, and continual process improvements.
- Capability to work independently while also engaging as part of a larger multi-site warehouse team.
Desirable Attributes
- Experience handling Dangerous Goods (DG).
- Certification in Warehouse Operations or related qualifications.
- Pertinent experience managing Kanban replenishment systems.
- Proficiency with IFS ERP software.
- Understanding of lean manufacturing principles.
- Experience with continuous improvement initiatives.
- Background in manufacturing, defence, maritime, or shipbuilding environments.
