Job description

About the Role

This role offers the unique opportunity to build a brand-new product from scratch within the InsurTech sector, free from legacy code and technical debt. The Greenfield system being developed will be used daily by millions of users. From day one, you will take on real responsibility by developing your own features, participating in architectural decisions, and directly influencing the live product.

Our commitment is to thoughtful software architecture, consistently maintainable code, and making technical choices that remain sound over years.

Our team is highly collaborative onsite in Hamburg, emphasizing whiteboard sessions, technical discussions, quick decision-making, and direct coordination as routine activities. If you appreciate not just working software but well-engineered solutions, this environment is tailored for you.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate from the outset in shaping a product being developed from the ground up, contributing to architecture decisions alongside the team.
  • Work across the full stack without artificial boundaries—handling frontend, backend, infrastructure, and DevOps components; be responsible for features from conception through production deployment.
  • Engage in technical discussions at eye level, including code reviews, whiteboard sessions, and close collaboration with product management and executive leadership.
  • Stay close to the product to deeply understand requirements and craft solutions with technical acumen.
  • Leverage AI-based tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, and others as productivity boosters while maintaining full ownership of the codebase.

Candidate Profile

  • Completed degree in Computer Science or a closely related field with excellent academic achievements demonstrating fast learning and thorough understanding.
  • Genuine passion for software development demonstrated beyond university projects through personal projects, side projects, or open source contributions. Up to two years of professional experience are welcomed.
  • Proficient German language skills (minimum C1 level) to support demanding technical discussions and efficient team coordination.
  • Strong foundational knowledge in computer science concepts including software architecture, data structures, and object-oriented programming, with practical application skills.
  • Technology-agnostic mindset: your programming language background is less important than a solid foundational skill set and the ability to quickly master new technologies.
  • Proactive and structured work style; you seek feedback, embrace challenges, and thrive in an environment that encourages taking responsibility.

What We Offer

  • Balanced work environment with office presence Monday through Thursday and optional remote work on Fridays, located in our Hamburg office near the Außenalster for fostering collaboration and quick exchanges.
  • The stability and security of a well-established company combined with the dynamic pace and creative freedom typical of a startup environment.
  • Modern, AI-first working culture utilizing advanced tools such as ChatGPT Enterprise, Claude Code, and Cursor.ai seamlessly integrated into daily work.
  • State-of-the-art ergonomic workstation from day one, including a powerful MacBook, multiple monitors, and adjustable desk, plus additional personalized equipment like noise-cancelling headphones or ergonomic mouse on request.
  • Diverse and challenging assignments offering the opportunity to shape processes and maintain direct communication lines to executive management.
  • Opportunity for genuine growth through rapid assumption of responsibility and access to personalized training and development resources.
  • Active developer community in Hamburg with regular meetups, code reviews, and on-site speaker events fostering exchange and networking.
  • Comprehensive benefits such as competitive salary, 28 vacation days, vouchers for various company products, support for occupational pension schemes, and strong subsidies for the EGYM Wellpass program.
  • Complimentary food and beverages throughout the week including breakfast options, lunch, fresh fruit, and hot and cold drinks so you can focus on work without worrying about meals.
  • Convenient and sustainable commuting options supported by a free nationwide public transport ticket or bike leasing incentives thanks to our central Hamburg location.
  • A genuine team spirit with informal culture, open communication, and shared celebrations through lunches, after-work events, team activities, and no formal dress code.
