This pivotal role supports several accounting and finance operations, helping to close operational gaps and adapt to evolving organizational priorities during implementation of new systems. Opportunity exists to learn from finance leaders and assist in month-end closing and financial reporting as you gain comprehensive operational accounting expertise.
Key Responsibilities
- Process and code a large volume of vendor invoices across different departments, properties, and businesses, ensuring proper documentation and approvals.
- Reconcile vendor accounts by matching supplier statements, investigating discrepancies, and following up on missing invoices and unapplied credits.
- Address supplier payment inquiries and collaborate internally and externally to resolve invoice and payment issues.
- Maintain accurate vendor profiles and transaction histories in the accounting system.
- Reconcile corporate credit card statements to receipts and accounting records, properly code expenses, and address discrepancies or missing documents.
- Prepare accounts payable aging reports and develop schedules based on invoice due dates and payment terms.
- Submit electronic fund transfers, wire payments and cheque runs for approval prior to payment releases.
- Record and apply approved supplier payments against outstanding invoices, maintaining proper documentation.
- Create and issue timely, accurate customer and client invoices and maintain records of outstanding receivables.
- Record cash receipts in accounting records, apply them correctly, and reconcile payments to reservations, flagging any inconsistencies.
Qualifications & Skills
- Post-secondary diploma or bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or business administration preferred.
- Interest in pursuing CPA designation considered an advantage.
- 1–2 years of practical experience in accounting, bookkeeping, accounts payable or receivable is needed.
- Experience within a startup environment or hospitality sector is beneficial.
- Familiar with double-entry bookkeeping, transaction coding, account reconciliations, and managing accounts payable and receivable.
- Experience with intercompany transactions or multi-entity accounting structures is a plus.
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including data sorting, filtering, lookup formulas, SUMIFS, and PivotTables.
- Detail-oriented, proactive problem solver, and comfortable functioning in a fast-moving startup setting.
Compensation & Benefits
- Competitive annual salary between $55,000 and $65,000 CAD, based on experience.
- Clearly defined advancement opportunities to assume full-cycle month-end closing responsibilities within 6–12 months.
- Health and dental benefits.
- Flexible hybrid work setup situated in Toronto.
