Role Overview
We are seeking a Junior Accountant to join our Support office team. This position provides an excellent platform for professionals with accounting experience aiming to enhance their expertise in a nurturing and teamwork-driven environment. The role encompasses diverse responsibilities including accounting, reporting, reconciliations, payroll assistance, and finance administration that ensure the finance department’s smooth functioning.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in compiling monthly management accounts and reporting packages.
- Perform balance sheet reconciliations and analyze discrepancies.
- Support the preparation of Board reports and statutory financial statements.
- Help with GST, FBT, and other regulatory filings.
- Organize and maintain accounting working papers and financial registers.
- Reconcile bank transactions and manage daily finance administrative duties.
- Prepare payment batches ensuring adherence to financial controls.
- Contribute to lease accounting and audit readiness activities.
- Complete required reports for external entities such as Statistics NZ, RBNZ, and FMA.
- Provide backup support for payroll processing when necessary.
- Document finance procedures and suggest process improvements.
- Assist the finance team with various projects and ad hoc assignments.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- 1 to 2 years of accounting experience within corporate or chartered practice settings.
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance, or related fields.
- Sound knowledge of accounting principles and New Zealand financial reporting standards.
- Understanding of payroll systems, employment law, and taxation regulations.
- Strong enthusiasm for accounting and commitment to a long-term career development in this profession.
- Superior written and oral communication skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy focused mindset.
