About the Role

The Job Coach plays a pivotal part in helping students maintain their vocational training and attachments that lead to employment after school. This role involves job matching, coaching, and providing ongoing support for students during their work experiences. Working within a multidisciplinary team and in close cooperation with caregivers and employment partners, the Job Coach offers career guidance, behavioural support, and strategies to enhance work performance, contributing to positive job placements for students.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) team to assess and prepare students for job attachments and employment.
- Identify students’ vocational interests and strengths and support their development in these areas.
- Design and implement job coaching and vocational training programs, accommodating necessary adjustments.
- Source and arrange job attachment opportunities in school, community, or industrial settings.
- Evaluate the appropriateness of job sites for student placements.
- Prepare students adequately for job attachments.
- Maintain detailed vocational documentation and generate relevant reports.
- Contribute to in-house work readiness training covering travel, interviews, grooming, and other work skills, in collaboration with the IEP team.
- Coordinate with Transition Planning Coordinators and external agencies/employers to facilitate smooth transitions from school to work.
- Engage closely with caregivers, partners, employers, and the IEP team to support students’ vocational experiences.
- Educate and involve caregivers, co-workers, and employers to maintain supportive environments for students’ work attachments.
- Execute pre- and post-vocational assessments and evaluations of students.
- Organize work exposure activities like job shadowing and learning journeys.
- Engage in reflective practices to assess professional impact and respond to sector issues.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, organizational policies, and professional ethical standards.
Qualifications and Experience
- Relevant Diploma plus a Certificate in Autism; a Diploma in Special Education is a strong advantage.
- Minimum of two years’ experience supporting individuals with disabilities who require moderate assistance.
- Experience in vocational training, assessment, or placement is highly favourable.
