Java Backend Developer

About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated Java Backend Developer to design, build, and maintain backend services as part of the Fundmaster Modernization initiative. The role includes implementing business logic, developing APIs and database modules, creating automated test suites, engaging in code reviews, and providing production support.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and sustain backend services using Java and Spring Boot frameworks.
• Translate functional and technical requirements into implemented business logic.
• Design, develop, and integrate RESTful APIs with enterprise systems.
• Create efficient database access layers and dependable data processing workflows.
• Write clean, maintainable source code alongside robust unit and integration testing.
• Perform root cause analyses on defects, supporting the resolution of both development and live issues.
• Engage collaboratively in code reviews, Agile meetings, deployment pipelines, and production support activities.
• Work cohesively with cross-functional teams including developers, analysts, QA, operations, and support groups.

Required Skills and Experience

• Minimum of 7 years’ experience in backend development with Core Java, preferably Java 8 or newer.
• Proficient with Spring Framework, Spring Boot, and REST API design.
• Hands-on experience with testing frameworks such as JUnit and Mockito.
• Familiarity with Git/GitHub version control and fundamental CI/CD workflows.
• Strong analytical problem-solving skills including debugging and secure coding principles.
• Basic understanding of Linux/Unix environments and application server management.
• Advanced proficiency in SQL, including complex queries involving joins, subqueries, CTEs, aggregations, DML operations, transactions, indexing, data validation, and query optimization. Ability to independently author and assess production-quality SQL and troubleshoot data issues.

Preferred Qualifications

• Background in financial services sectors such as investment operations, accounting, reconciliation, or asset servicing.
• Experience working on modernization of legacy or critical enterprise applications.
• Familiarity with AS400/IBM i platforms and DB2 databases.
• Exposure to cloud services like Azure or AWS.
• Knowledge of containerization technologies, including Docker and Kubernetes.
