Job Purpose and Engagement

The Internal Auditor’s role is to conduct comprehensive audits across the organization, prepare detailed audit reports, and highlight issues related to governance, risk management, and internal control systems. The role aims to recommend corrective actions that enhance operational efficiency and reduce costs. The position involves close collaboration with company staff and stakeholders to foster positive relationships and communicate effectively with various audiences.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and complete assigned audit engagements, including planning, fieldwork, reporting, and follow-ups, following the risk-based audit plan approved by the board.
• Identify internal control weaknesses in key risk areas promptly to prevent losses and suggest cost-saving and risk mitigation measures.
• Deliver high-quality execution of audits related to financial, operational, compliance, and IT processes, supporting the internal audit team.
• Conduct in-depth testing and collaborate with company staff to verify control effectiveness.
• Support enterprise risk management initiatives through assurance and advisory services.
• Proactively suggest process improvements and innovative ideas aimed at increasing business efficiency.
• Ensure timely reporting and documentation of audit procedures, maintaining detailed records and draft reports that justify audit findings with evidence.
• Monitor and ensure that corrective actions resulting from audits are implemented effectively and promptly.
• Maintain both physical and electronic backups of all audit materials and uphold strict document management standards within the audit department.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the Internal Audit Manager.
• Adhere rigorously to professional standards set by the Institute of Internal Auditors, the National Board of Accountants & Auditors (NBAA), and Watu’s Code of Conduct.

Qualifications and Skills

• A bachelor's degree in Accounting or a Finance-related discipline is required.
• CPA intermediate status is preferred; certifications such as CIA or CISA are highly advantageous.
• At least 4 years of experience in an auditing environment.
• Technical expertise in risk assessment and management, audit planning and execution, knowledge of legal and financial regulations, and internal control evaluation.
• Proficiency with Google Suite applications (spreadsheets, documents, etc.).
• Strong behavioral competencies including integrity, confidentiality, meticulous documentation and record-keeping, excellent problem-solving and communication skills, professional skepticism, time management, ability to work under pressure, critical thinking, analytical ability, teamwork, and collaboration.
