Role Overview
The Department of Justice and Community Safety seeks a dedicated Industry Officer to join Tarrengower Prison, a minimum security female facility focused on prisoner rehabilitation and reintegration. This full-time position involves managing specific functions within prisoner and service industry operations under supervision, ensuring safety, compliance, and operational targets.
About the Department and Facility
The Department operates across eight regions providing regulatory, compliance, and enforcement services throughout Victoria. The Loddon Mallee Region includes Justice Service Centres and three prisons: Loddon Prison (medium risk), Middleton (restricted minimum), and Tarrengower Prison in Maldon.
Tarrengower Prison supports reintegration and emphasizes a healthy prison environment where family connections, especially mother-child relationships, and cultural diversity are respected.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and guide prisoners and prison officers within industrial areas.
- Ensure both internal and external security through adherence to safety protocols and thorough prisoner monitoring and surveillance.
- Support the achievement of production goals in complex industrial settings.
- Manage prisoner employment and oversee safe operating procedures aligning with OH&S regulations.
- Control stocks, materials, and financial documentation related to prison industries.
- Perform security tasks including searches, escorts, surveillance, and behavioral assessments.
- Prepare reports and contribute to practices supporting offender and security management.
Candidate Profile and Qualifications
- Possession of skills or credentials in horticulture, farming, manufacturing, or hospitality is advantageous.
- Trade qualifications or comparable trade experience are desirable.
- Valid motor vehicle driver's license required.
