Role Purpose
The HSLP Coordinator is responsible for executing the Integrated and Health Safety and Loss Prevention Management Systems at the Ahafo operations to ensure workplace safety and loss prevention.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and manage programs aimed at preventing accidents, incidents, and losses linked to plant operations and maintenance.
- Support line management in fostering a culture of safe production by advising on hazard identification, risk assessments, compliance with safety policies, and analyzing safety trends and statistics.
- Participate in investigations to identify root causes of incidents and prescribe corrective measures.
- Conduct health and safety audits and inspections, prepare documentation, and ensure timely closure of corrective actions.
- Deliver safety briefings and present relevant information at meetings.
- Create and update health and safety policies and procedures.
- Track and report on HSLP key performance indicators for the processing department.
- Ensure adherence to Integrated Management System and HSLP Management System standards, participating in audits as required.
- Provide support to Senior HSLP Coordinator and HSLP Manager.
- Promote and embody Newmont’s vision, values, and purpose in all duties.
- Execute tasks that minimize risk and maintain safety for all personnel, including contractors.
- Motivate and train staff to enhance safe practices and productivity related to HSLP processes.
- Comply with company policies, procedures, and safe work practices as detailed in site management systems and relevant documents.
- Maintain awareness of environmental and social responsibility policies and contribute actively to hazard identification and mitigation related to HSLP, environment, and community matters.
- Respect local community rights and promote open, honest communication with employees, contractors, and visitors.
- Perform additional duties as requested.
Scope and Authority
This position operates under the supervision of the Senior HSLP Coordinator and HSLP Manager, aligned with governmental and corporate regulations. It holds authority to approve purchasing and store issues up to $750 within budget.
Challenges and Environment
The role demands strong communication skills and the capability to engage supervisors effectively in health and safety promotion.
Internal and External Relationships
- Direct report to the Senior HSLP Coordinator.
- Support to the HSLP Manager and Site Leadership Team.
- Collaboration with HSLP team members, consultants, contractors, and government agencies.
- Connections with the broader Newmont HSLP global network and safety professionals.
Qualifications and Experience Required
- Bachelor’s degree or Graduate Diploma in Health, Safety and Loss Prevention.
- At least 5 years of experience in health and safety within the extractive industry.
- Comprehensive knowledge of Safety Management Systems and risk management.
- Experience in accident and incident investigations.
- Desirable qualifications in auditing, training, and first aid.
- Proficient report writing, presentation, organizational, and communication skills.
- Competent in using MS Office applications.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license.
- Familiarity with applicable health and safety legal requirements.
- Ability to work effectively in a diverse team environment.
