About the Role
Join Cook Shire Council as a Housing Officer and contribute meaningfully to our community by managing essential homes. Your role will involve overseeing Council’s housing portfolio, including staff and senior housing, ensuring properties are maintained, tenants receive proper support, and allocation processes remain fair and compliant.
If you are organized, people-oriented, and eager to make a tangible difference, this position could be ideal, even if you are new to housing administration. We value the right attitude and transferable skills and offer training for candidates ready to learn.
Key Responsibilities
- Partnering with the Property and Development Compliance Coordinator to manage staff housing leases, rent administration, and housing registers.
- Facilitating housing allocations and making recommendations based on tenants' needs and suitability.
- Handling applications, eligibility assessments, and allocations for senior housing managed by the Council.
- Managing rental agreements, conducting annual rent reviews, and maintaining engagement with tenants and relevant organizations.
- Keeping meticulous records of housing occupancy, leases, bonds, and rent details.
- Coordinating property inspections, including entry, exit, and routine checks, along with maintenance, repairs, and safety compliance.
- Compiling detailed reports on housing occupancy, allocation status, and property conditions.
Candidate Profile
- Exceptional organizational skills and a strong attention to detail.
- Effective verbal and written communication capabilities with a commitment to excellent customer service.
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion.
- Sharp analytical thinking coupled with sound problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Capacity to work autonomously while contributing constructively within a team environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and record management software.
- Capability to manage multiple priorities proactively.
- Possession of a current Queensland Class C Driver Licence.
Experience in property management, tenancy services, community housing, or local government is highly beneficial. Familiarity with the Residential Tenancies and Rooming Accommodation Act 2008 (Qld) and experience with property inspections and maintenance coordination will be an added advantage.
Employment Details
- Position located at Council’s Main Administration Office, 10 Furneaux Street, Cooktown.
- Full-time tenure with a nine-day fortnight work schedule.
- Annual remuneration of $89,306 consistent with Queensland Local Government Industry Award Level 4.
- Leave benefits include 5 weeks of annual leave and 15 days of personal leave per year.
- Superannuation at 12% contribution rate.
