Overview

Join Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) as a Housekeeping Aide, where you will contribute to a safe and respectful atmosphere for patients, visitors, families, and staff by ensuring cleanliness and hygiene in health care settings. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform general cleaning tasks including damp dusting, dry and wet mopping, and floor care such as maintenance and refinishing with appropriate equipment.
  • Clean and disinfect ceilings, walls, vents, washrooms, beds, furniture, and medical equipment in accordance with health and safety protocols.
  • Collect and dispose of regular and biomedical waste safely.
  • Manage spill clean-ups promptly and assist with bed-making duties to maintain patient comfort and hygiene.
  • Follow organizational policies and procedures to maintain facility cleanliness consistently.

About Environmental Services at VCH

Environmental Services at VCH encompasses more than typical janitorial roles. You will collaborate closely with infection control and patient care teams to disinfect clinical and non-clinical spaces, including patient rooms, offices, washrooms, and shared areas. Tasks also include removing waste, vacuuming carpets, polishing floors, and disinfecting surfaces to promote a safe healthcare environment.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Completion of Grade 10 education or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Physical capability to fulfill the demands of the position.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interact well with others.
  • Organizational ability to manage work tasks efficiently.
  • Competence in operating related cleaning equipment.

  • Work hours, days off, and assigned areas may vary according to operational needs and collective agreement provisions.
  • Applicants must be willing to complete a Criminal Records Review Check if selected.
  • Compliance with Ministry of Health policies requires reporting past vaccinations or infection history, to safeguard against communicable diseases and outbreaks.
