Homemaker

Position Summary

The Homemaker role, reporting to the Community Services Manager, involves delivering homemaking support to Elders and clients within the Esowista, Ty-Histanis, and Opitsaht communities. This role demands physical effort and plays a vital role in supplementing Elder and Client care programs alongside the Home and Community Care worker. The ideal candidate is energetic, dependable, and dedicated to home services.

The Homemaker actively supports the Tla-o-qui-aht First Nations culture by assisting Nation members, fostering a healthy environment grounded in the value of huu-piits-tulth (mutual assistance).

Duties and Responsibilities

• Deliver professional homemaking services to approved Nation members as directed by the Community Services Manager.
• Perform cleaning tasks based on evaluations from the Tla-o-qui-aht CHS Department, including but not limited to vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, dishwashing, dusting, disinfecting bathrooms and kitchen areas, laundry, and overall maintenance.
• Build and sustain trustworthy and professional relationships by respectfully entering clients' homes to execute care plans.
• Adhere to a cleaning schedule in alignment with client care plans.
• Respect client privacy and confidentiality while adapting to various scenarios and different lifestyles.
• Maintain accurate records of service hours and activities per client, report incidents, and submit timesheets following Nation policies.
• Comply with all safety regulations in performing duties.
• Undertake additional tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma.
• Valid driver’s license with vehicle access.
• Ability to complete cleaning responsibilities with minimal supervision.
• Physical capacity to handle cleaning and janitorial duties.
• One to three years’ experience in homemaking or home support environments.

Knowledge, Skills, and Attributes

• Experience working within Aboriginal organizations or communities.
• Strong organizational, verbal communication, time management, interpersonal, and housekeeping skills.
• Confidentiality, professional demeanor, sound judgment, tact, respectfulness, diplomacy, empathy, customer focus, integrity, and trustworthiness.
• Preference given to qualified Aboriginal candidates.
• Clear criminal record check for vulnerable services.
• Clean driver’s abstract.
• Food Safe certification.
• First Aid certification.

Work Conditions

• Onsite work at clients’ residences.
• Exposure to sensitive and confidential information.
• Potential to encounter stressful situations involving volatile individuals.

Physical Requirements

• Good physical health to perform activities such as bending, lifting, carrying, and walking throughout the day.
• Ability to stand for extended periods.
• Capability to lift or carry items exceeding 20 pounds.
• Mobility to access homes located on stairs or uneven terrain.
• Frequent travel via car or boat.
