Overview

VON Canada is seeking a full-time Home Support Aide (HSA) to work within Kings County, Nova Scotia. This position offers an opportunity to positively impact individuals' health and independence by delivering homemaking services in clients' homes. As an HSA, you will be an integral part of a collaborative healthcare team dedicated to enhancing wellbeing.

Work Details

  • Regular full-time status (1.0 FTE) with 80 hours scheduled bi-weekly.
  • Work shifts include days, evenings, and weekends.
  • No on-call requirements.
  • Unionized under NSGEU.

Role Responsibilities

  • Perform light housekeeping tasks such as cleaning living spaces, vacuuming, mopping floors, laundry, and dishwashing.
  • Plan, prepare, and serve nutritious meals to clients.
  • Provide companionship and develop positive professional relationships with clients.
  • Assist clients with walking and stabilization as needed.
  • Communicate client needs regarding homemaking, physical, and emotional wellbeing to healthcare team members to support care planning.
  • Conduct environmental risk assessments in clients' homes.
  • Focus on preserving client independence, safety, health status, and quality of life.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent mandatory.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certifications required.
  • Certified Safe Food Handler and WHMIS compliant.
  • Preferred experience includes working with seniors and persons with disabilities, professional cleaning services, and customer service roles.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle essential for travel within service area.
  • Submission of a satisfactory Criminal Records Check, Child Abuse Registry Check, and possibly a Vulnerable Sector Search.
  • Capability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) during work.
  • Physical demands include lifting, carrying with proper techniques, bending, kneeling, reaching, walking, standing, sitting, climbing stairs, and performing fine hand movements.
