About The Role

Join our East Sussex Network Management team as a Highway Steward, where you will oversee a specific geographic area and serve as the primary liaison with local councillors, parish representatives, and residents. Your contributions will be vital in safeguarding highway safety and efficiency through regular inspections, detailed investigations, and active stakeholder engagement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine and reactive highway safety inspections to detect defects and initiate work orders.
  • Perform comprehensive inspections and determine necessary remedial measures.
  • Handle customer inquiries timely and in accordance with established service policies and standards.
  • Investigate third-party claims connected to personal injuries or property damage with meticulous documentation.
  • Attend meetings with local officials and community members representing the company professionally.
  • Assist with broader Network Management service delivery.
  • Contribute to reducing third-party claims and facilitate recovery operations.
  • Work towards fulfilling contractual performance objectives and service excellence.
  • Promote Health & Safety and the Zero Harm initiative throughout all activities.

Candidate Profile

  • Hands-on experience in highways inspections, maintenance, or operational roles.
  • Familiarity with highways maintenance standards and relevant policies.
  • Effective communication and customer service capabilities.
  • Proven ability to professionally manage customer expectations.
  • Comfortable engaging with elected officials and other stakeholders.
  • Proficient with IT systems, especially work management software.
  • Excellent organizational abilities to juggle diverse responsibilities.
  • Capability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Possession of a full UK driving license.
  • Strong prioritization skills and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Adaptable and flexible approach to changing work requirements.
