Job description
About Terac
Terac is pioneering the platform for on-demand human capabilities by deeply understanding individual potentials, desired work environments, client needs, and what defines success. We match expert human talent to projects where they excel and create value, initially focusing on specialized experts in AI training, evaluation, market research, and expert-driven studies.
The traditional labor market, relying on resumes and credentials, lacked depth in assessing people and work. Terac transforms this by analyzing thousands of signals about people’s skills, preferences, and performance alongside detailed project requirements.
Currently, we place thousands of experts monthly, paying over $90/hour on average. Our 15-person San Francisco-based team collaborates with leading research firms.
Role Overview
As Head of Projects, you will lead scaling our project deliveries from 50 projects with 25+ clients to hundreds monthly with 100+ clients by 2026. Reporting to the CEO, you will shape delivery and customer success, manage key client relationships, grow the projects team from 5 to over 20 members, and ensure flawless execution without oversights.
You excel at managing ambiguity, exercising sound judgement, and shifting adeptly between strategy, operational tasks, and team management.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee project leads and recruiters managing multiple AI data and evaluation projects, ensuring clear roles, prioritization, and execution.
- Guarantee timely, high-caliber delivery of customized data pipelines and expert labeling processes, optimizing throughput, quality, and cost-efficiency.
- Provide an exceptional experience for Terac experts to support scalable, quality data production with strong communication and support.
- Collaborate with Product and Engineering teams to enhance internal systems and workflows for substantial improvements in efficiency and quality.
- Manage portfolio performance metrics—quality, throughput, service levels, utilization, and margins—to drive continual improvements based on data insights.
Required Qualifications
- Background in operationally intensive roles such as marketplace operations, data operations, or strategy and operations.
- Proven experience managing high-performing teams in dynamic, execution-driven settings.
- Track record of leading complex, multi-stakeholder projects from inception through completion, ideally involving AI, data, or technical workflows.
Preferred Experience
- Operations or strategy exposure at early-stage or fast-growing startups.
- Experience in investment banking, private equity, or management consulting.
- Familiarity with AI data operations, machine learning operations, or technical service environments.
Additional Information
- Compensation includes a competitive salary, meaningful four-year vested equity, a $10,000 relocation bonus for Bay Area moves, and a $5,000 housing bonus if relocating within half a mile of the office.
- Benefits include health, dental, vision insurance and a 401(k) plan with company matching.
- Growth prospects as an early founding team member shaping and expanding the company.
- Work schedule requires onsite presence six days a week at the downtown San Francisco office.
