Job description
About Enterprise AI Group
Enterprise AI is a Sydney-based startup that enables organizations to effectively harness artificial intelligence. Our compact but skilled team is distributed across Sydney, Manila, and New York. We build products using AI agents as active contributors to engineering tasks, complemented by human oversight, review, and product delivery.
Role Overview
This role is for a hands-on Head of Engineering who acts as both a leader and active contributor. You will oversee the development approach, lead a hybrid team combining engineers and AI coding agents, and drive the delivery of exceptional software. This position is Sydney-based and requires ongoing engagement directly with the code and the architecture.
Key Responsibilities
- Remain actively coding with AI agents, maintain a strong grasp of product architecture and codebase, and review all code contributions.
- Engage daily with team members across Sydney, Manila, and New York to comprehend project progress, resolve roadblocks, and ensure coordinated development.
- Enhance engineering workflows continually, focusing on code quality, deployment processes, functionality, agent orchestration, code review procedures, evaluations, CI/CD pipelines, and quality assurance measures to enable rapid, reliable deliveries.
- Lead and nurture the engineering team through coaching, recognition, and fostering elevated standards.
- Define and oversee the technical direction and underlying architecture for enterprise AI products.
- Ensure frequent software releases, aiming for four deployments per week, making development and shipping enjoyable.
- Collaborate closely with the company founder on product strategy and high-impact client engagements.
Candidate Profile
- Possess 8 to 15 years of software engineering experience, demonstrating versatility in startup environments with exposure to diverse roles.
- Maintain a strong personal coding practice, actively reviewing pull requests and involved in architectural decisions rather than managing purely through presentations.
- Experienced working alongside AI coding agents such as Claude Code, Cursor, or bespoke agent frameworks, with critical insights into their strengths and limitations.
- Proven leadership background with enthusiasm for guiding teams from within the codebase, not detached managerial roles.
- Possess solid product intuition, focusing discussions on what should be built, beyond just implementation details.
- Comfortable managing teams spread across multiple time zones and based in Sydney, willing to work primarily onsite.
Compensation and Benefits
- Annual base salary ranging from A$220,000 to A$260,000 plus superannuation.
- Equity stake representing over 1% ownership with a standard 4-year vesting schedule, reflecting the partner-level nature of this position.
- An AI-native team environment free from legacy practices, encouraging innovation.
- Direct influence on product development, company trajectory, and team growth initiatives.
