Job description

About the Role

As the Head of Data Science, you will lead the creation of sophisticated data science and machine learning solutions aimed at enhancing pricing, allocation, and fulfillment processes within the platform. Your work will tackle some of the most challenging problems, improving customer satisfaction, operational effectiveness, profitability, and overall marketplace performance.

This position combines in-depth technical knowledge with strategic business insight. Collaboration is key, as you will partner with teams from Product, Engineering, Operations, and Commercial to design scalable optimization systems, develop predictive analytics, influence product directions, and establish the long-term vision for marketplace intelligence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create dynamic pricing models that effectively balance customer value, demand sensitivity, profit margins, and competitive factors.
  • Develop pricing algorithms using econometrics, causal inference, reinforcement learning, and optimization methods.
  • Assess pricing experiments and measure their business impact through comprehensive statistical evaluations.
  • Construct pricing simulation tools to predict revenue, margins, and customer behaviors for various pricing schemes.
  • Collaborate with Product and Business units to establish pricing guardrails and governance policies.
  • Design intelligent allocation algorithms to improve supply-demand matching efficiency.
  • Develop optimization models addressing inventory allocation, merchant assignment, workforce distribution, and other resource planning challenges.
  • Enhance operational allocation using mathematical optimization, operations research, and machine learning techniques.
  • Analyze marketplace operations to identify fulfillment bottlenecks and constraints.
  • Develop predictive models to estimate delivery times, order completion likelihood, cancellation risks, and fulfillment capacity.
  • Spot opportunities to reduce fulfillment costs while maintaining high customer satisfaction.
  • Create decision-support tools to streamline and optimize operational workflows.
  • Oversee the development and deployment of robust machine learning models from initial concept through production.
  • Design and maintain large-scale experimentation frameworks and causal analysis techniques.
  • Define and guide the long-term data science strategy for Pricing and Fulfillment domains.
  • Serve as the go-to technical expert for complex modeling challenges.
  • Mentor and lead senior data scientists, promoting best practices across the company.
  • Encourage a culture of experimentation and data-driven decision-making.

Job Requirements

  • Advanced degree (Master's or PhD) in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Operations Research, Economics, or closely related quantitative fields.
  • 8 to 12+ years of professional experience in Data Science, Machine Learning, Applied Research, or quantitative modeling roles.
  • Demonstrated success in delivering production-quality machine learning solutions that produce concrete business results.
  • Strong skills in Python programming and SQL querying.
  • Expertise in statistical inference, predictive modeling, and designing experiments.
  • Experience handling very large datasets within cloud computing platforms.
