Role Overview

The Hatchery Manager role is a full-time, on-location position based in Harare, Zimbabwe. This individual will be in charge of the complete hatchery cycle from receiving eggs to delivering chicks. Responsibilities cover scheduling and monitoring incubation, supervising staff members, and optimizing environmental conditions to maximize hatch rates and chick health.

Key Duties

• Oversee daily hatchery workflows, coordinating incubation timing and chick production.
• Lead hatchery staff, managing schedules, training programs, and resolving conflicts.
• Maintain strict biosecurity, sanitation, and safety protocols to ensure a healthy and compliant operation.
• Manage inventory including eggs, vaccines, supplies, and equipment.
• Collaborate with farm and sales teams to facilitate smooth operational flow.
• Keep detailed records of production, quality metrics, and compliance documentation.
• Drive continuous improvement efforts by monitoring performance data and implementing enhancements.
• Perform training and mentorship for staff development.

Experience and Qualifications

• Proven background in poultry or hatchery management with a deep understanding of incubation methods and animal welfare.
• Experience leading teams, including workforce planning, performance assessment, and conflict management.
• Competence in operational planning, record maintenance, and basic data analysis for performance tracking.
• Knowledge of biosecurity, hygiene, and safety standards relevant to agricultural or food production settings.
• Skill in inventory control and cross-functional communication.
• Academic credentials such as a diploma or degree in agriculture, animal science, or equivalent hands-on experience.
• Willingness to work on-site with flexibility for shift and occasional weekend duties.
• Basic computer literacy for utilizing farm management or production monitoring tools; familiarity with industry best practices is beneficial.
