Job description

About Us

Maintain It is a comprehensive facility maintenance company collaborating with BUILD IT, an established general contractor in Ontario. We specialize in maintaining restaurant, retail, and commercial properties, emphasizing quick-service restaurant locations.

Role Overview

This position involves being the go-to person who arrives on-site to repair and maintain facilities. Approximately 80% of your work will involve direct hands-on repair tasks, while the remaining 20% entails coordinating certified trade professionals when specialized work is needed, ensuring quality completion before closing service requests.

The Handyman will report to the Operations Manager and collaborate closely with subcontractors, on-site client representatives, and the Maintain It team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Patch and finish drywall matching existing texture and paint.
  • Repair or replace tiles, sections of flooring, and ceiling tiles.
  • Remove and renew deteriorated caulking around fixtures, counters, kitchens, washrooms, windows, and exterior joints.
  • Fix minor concrete damages such as cracks, chips, spalling, and trip hazards on sidewalks, curbs, and pads.
  • Adjust or replace door hardware including closers, hinges; repair washroom stalls, partitions, FRP panels, and dumpster enclosure gates.
  • Perform minor plumbing and electrical repairs.
  • Evaluate issues upon arrival to determine if direct repair is feasible or if a trade professional needs to be engaged.
  • Schedule, oversee, and verify trade work (electrical, plumbing, HVAC) done by licensed professionals.
  • Communicate clearly with on-site client contacts to report completed work and any next steps.
  • Document all jobs thoroughly with reports and photos.
  • Maintain inventory and condition of tools, equipment, and materials, flagging supply needs proactively.

Candidate Requirements

  • At least four years of practical experience in general repair, handyman services, or facility maintenance.
  • Possession of a personal, comprehensive set of hand and power tools.
  • A valid driver's license coupled with a dependable vehicle.
  • Comfortable working at heights, including ladder use.
  • Availability to work flexible hours including weekends, overnight shifts, and late hours to accommodate client operating times.
  • Strong organizational skills, reliability, and professionalism in client interactions.
  • Adeptness in utilizing digital tools and mobile applications for managing work orders and reporting.

Work Schedule and Compensation

The position demands schedule flexibility as work predominantly occurs outside normal restaurant operating hours to avoid disruptions. Expect weekend, overnight, and late shifts, along with travel between multiple client sites.

Hourly pay ranges between $28 and $36.
