Job description
Overview
The Group Tax Manager is tasked with overseeing tax compliance activities for the organization and its related entities. This position demands a hands-on approach involving the direct preparation and management of tax documentation, reconciliations, submissions, and reporting. The role collaborates closely with departments such as finance, payroll, procurement, credit, operations, IT/ERP support, external consultants, ZIMRA, and auditors to ensure thorough tax compliance and control, enhance documentation quality, and monitor evolving tax risks within Zimbabwe's complex fiscal environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and prepare tax computations, returns, reconciliation schedules, and supporting documentation for submissions to tax authorities.
- Maintain oversight of tax compliance across VAT, PAYE, withholding tax, income tax, QPDs, AIDS levy, and other statutory obligations.
- Handle tax compliance at branch levels and manage multi-currency tax issues involving USD and Zimbabwean dollars.
- Address taxation matters related to imports, intercompany transactions, credit sales, manufacturing, retail activities, rentals, payroll, and supplier payments.
- Compile tax evidence files, reconciliation statements, and maintain communication with tax authorities.
- Provide tax reporting inputs to support management reviews, audit processes, and governance requirements.
- Ensure adherence to strict deadlines within a dynamic, high-volume, multi-branch operational context.
Required Experience and Skills
- Extensive practical knowledge of Zimbabwean tax compliance, including direct engagement with ZIMRA.
- Proficient in using TaRMS and online tax filing systems.
- Highly skilled in Microsoft Excel and capable of working with large volumes of transactional data.
- Experience managing reconciliations involving both United States Dollars and Zimbabwean Dollars.
Educational Qualifications
- Degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or a related field.
- Professional qualifications such as ACCA, CIS, ICAZ, CIMA, or equivalent, with partial qualifications considered.
- Relevant tax or ZIMRA-specific training is expected.
- Prior formal training from ZIMRA will be considered a strong advantage.
