Role Overview

As a Groomer at Petco, you will deliver expert grooming services designed to ensure pets look and feel their best. Your role focuses on maintaining animal comfort and safety while providing exceptional service to pet parents. This role provides an opportunity to enhance your grooming expertise and contribute to a supportive team environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform professional grooming services including bathing, drying, brushing, haircuts, styling, nail trimming, ear cleaning, and gland cleaning following pet owner instructions and breed standards.
• Use and maintain grooming tools and equipment such as clippers, shears, brushes, and dryers safely and effectively.
• Prioritize the safety and wellbeing of animals by monitoring their condition and promptly reporting any concerns.
• Assess each pet's individual grooming needs based on coat type, skin condition, and temperament.
• Provide high-quality customer service by professionally engaging with pet owners, addressing inquiries, and offering grooming advice.
• Educate pet parents on maintaining grooming and overall pet health at home.
• Ensure cleanliness and proper sanitation of grooming areas and equipment, adhering to hygiene protocols.
• Apply Petco’s grooming standards and policies to maintain quality and consistency within the salon.
• Assist in training and supervising entry-level groomers when needed.

Candidate Profile

• Completion of Petco’s Grooming Apprentice program or equivalent professional grooming experience or training.
• High school diploma or GED preferred but not mandatory.
• Ability to make sound grooming-related decisions independently in routine and moderately complex situations.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to delivering quality grooming services.
• Passion for animals and dedication to growing a career in pet grooming.
• Expertise in breed-specific grooming techniques, health issues, and behavior.
• Excellent communication skills for effective interaction with clients and team members.
• Capability to handle pets of varying sizes and temperaments with care and empathy.
• Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

This role is primarily indoors in a grooming salon requiring standing for extended periods, bending, kneeling, lifting up to 30 pounds, and occasional use of ladders or other tools for cleaning and maintenance. The environment can be noisy and wet and involves frequent interaction with pets and colleagues.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range for this position is $15.00 to $25.00 per hour, varying by location and experience, with compliance to applicable wage laws.
