Groom Tech in Training

Position Overview

This role focuses on completing Petsense's Paragon training program, aimed at preparing candidates for a career in pet grooming and bathing. Paragon is a virtual learning course covering two levels: Level 1 (lasting 5-8 weeks) and Level 2 (lasting 10 weeks). The training encompasses fundamentals of grooming and bathing, pet safety, first aid and CPR, handling techniques, and canine anatomy and physiology through a mix of practical exercises, coursework, exams, videos, and photo submissions.

Training Benefits

Successful completion of both levels on schedule awards students a full set of grooming tools. Store equipment will be provided during training for practice.

Primary Duties

• Uphold and embody Petsense by Tractor Supply's mission and values.
• Maintain dependable attendance and adhere to work schedules, including nights, weekends, and potential overtime.
• Commit to working assigned shifts through the 15-week training (Level 1 may be part- or full-time; Level 2 requires full-time).
• Execute varied daily tasks including grooming duties like nail trimming, ear plucking, different coat baths, natural foot trimming, and maintaining logs and photo documentation.
• Complete at least 10 hands-on practice sessions in each grooming category and submit required photos on time.
• Perform at least 40 breed-specific baths and record details in a tracking journal.
• Support business development by contacting customers, scheduling and confirming appointments, and verifying vaccination records.
• Create a safe environment for team members, customers, and animals.
• Greet customers and pets, fully executing a 7-point check-in process.
• Inspect animals for parasites, diseases, or injuries, reporting concerns to owners.
• Sanitize grooming tools and maintain cleanliness to prevent injury and disease transmission.
• Update and maintain client records including service details and vaccinations.
• Use computer systems for documentation and store operations.
• Assist with store recovery operations as necessary.

Requirements

• Comfortable handling dogs and cats, demonstrating patience and compassion.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Preferred: Proficient operation of grooming equipment such as tubs, brushes, scissors, clippers, dryers, and shampoos.
• Effective communication skills with colleagues and clients.
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
• Basic computer literacy.
• Good interpersonal skills and conflict resolution capabilities.

Working Conditions

• Indoor work environment with moderate noise.
• Exposure to sharp tools, grooming products, animals, and waste.
• Wet conditions common during bathing tasks.
• Opportunities to work shifts ranging from 4 to over 10 hours.
• Promoting safety and productivity in the workplace.

Physical Demands

• Ability to handle and transfer live animals and equipment up to 50 pounds.
• Lifting pets up to 75 pounds solo; assistance for over 100 pounds.
• Capability to push/pull heavy store merchandise with equipment.
• Physical endurance to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and use grooming tools for entire shifts.
• Frequent movement throughout the grooming salon and store.
• Utilization of store equipment like computers and cash registers.
• Effective verbal and written communication with customers and team.
