Grocery Head Clerk

Role Overview

The Head Clerk is responsible for creating an inviting atmosphere and ensuring the store is clean, well-organized, and fully stocked to encourage customers to return. This role combines customer-facing interactions with multiple management tasks, requiring someone who thrives under pressure and approaches their work with a proactive and positive attitude.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Engage with customers warmly, addressing their inquiries with enthusiasm.
• Respond promptly to requests or concerns from customers and coworkers, resolving issues quickly.
• Keep the store clean, safe, and orderly while adhering to company policies and Grocery Outlet’s standards.
• Review customer checks, handle overrides and voids, and manage cashiering-related matters.
• Unload deliveries, organize the stockroom, replenish sales floor areas, and operate necessary backroom equipment such as pallet jacks and balers.
• Conduct inventory checks and reorder stock as needed to maintain business flow.
• Prepare and arrange merchandise displays to attract customer attention.
• Perform various office tasks including managing mail and ordering products.
• Enforce company rules and protocols to ensure the wellbeing and satisfaction of customers and employees.

Compensation and Benefits

• The base wage is $28.20 per hour.

Candidate Profile and Requirements

• Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent qualification.
• Ability to provide courteous, friendly, and efficient customer service.

• Must successfully pass drug screening and background checks.
• Availability to work a flexible schedule.
• Experience in grocery or retail environments is beneficial.
• Strong team player and leadership qualities to work collaboratively with staff.
• Genuine enthusiasm for serving customers.
• Prior experience in bookkeeping is advantageous.
• Comfortable interacting courteously with customers, colleagues, truck drivers, and suppliers.
