Grid Connection Manager

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Grid Connection Manager to join our team in Auckland, New Zealand. This position plays a pivotal role within our ANZ operations, reporting directly to the Managing Director ANZ. The successful candidate will oversee the identification, development, and execution of projects involving wind, solar, and energy storage assets across Australia and New Zealand. The role encompasses tasks from initial feasibility studies and conceptual design through grid connection applications and compliance testing during commissioning. Effective management of relationships with grid-related stakeholders is essential, demanding excellent interpersonal abilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary technical authority on grid connection matters from feasibility through operational stages, particularly coordinating with Network Service Providers (NSPs) in Australia and New Zealand.
• Lead discussions and define scopes of work with grid consultants and advisors; assess technical deliverables and documentation from third-party power system consultants and suppliers.
• Assist Project Development Managers with grid connection applications by engaging with NSPs, network operators, and relevant regulatory bodies.
• Review grid connection design submissions to ensure alignment with project scope, timelines, and cost constraints.
• Collaborate with the Construction team to coordinate grid connection tasks alongside utilities and contractors, ensuring smooth progress through commissioning and operational phases.
• Evaluate new project prospects and provide technical due diligence support in conjunction with development, engineering, and power market teams.
• Communicate current trends and developments in renewable energy systems, including relevant codes, standards, and certifications, to teams across the APAC region.
• Lead all grid-related operational issues.

Candidate Requirements

• Eligibility to work in New Zealand is mandatory.
• Possession of an Electrical Engineering Degree (Bachelor’s or Master’s level).
• Proficiency in reading, interpreting, and producing electrical drawings.
• Familiarity with Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) GPS Standards and National Electricity Rules.
• Experience with New Zealand’s electricity market, associated rules, and standards is advantageous.
• Knowledge of secondary systems including SCADA within substations is a plus.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills paired with strong interpersonal effectiveness.
• Demonstrated commercial acumen.
