Role Overview

We are looking for a skilled Graphic Designer to join a Queensland Government project focused on engaging stakeholders and communities in North Queensland. This contract position, based in Cairns or Townsville, offers a hybrid working arrangement over a 12-month government contract with potential extensions. The ideal candidate is a creative professional proficient in producing visual content across print, digital, video, and online platforms, capable of converting intricate information into clear, accessible visuals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create imaginative design solutions that effectively communicate and connect with diverse audiences.
  • Design and develop a wide range of communication materials such as publications, brochures, newsletters, displays, maps, presentations, social media posts, digital and print advertisements, and video content.
  • Advise executives, stakeholders, and internal teams on visual design and digital communication strategies.
  • Ensure all produced materials conform to Transport and Main Roads (TMR) brand standards, accessibility guidelines, and governmental regulations.
  • Transform complex information into engaging and appropriate visual formats.
  • Effectively handle multiple priorities to deliver high-quality work within set deadlines.
  • Coordinate with external vendors including printers, illustrators, photographers, videographers, and animators.
  • Contribute to ongoing enhancements of visual communication practices, processes, and quality standards.
  • Collaborate with other design units to maintain consistency across departmental visual communications.

Essential Qualifications and Skills

  • Advanced expertise in Adobe Creative Suite, including Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, and Premiere Pro.
  • Proven experience in producing visual content across various mediums — print, digital, video, and online.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience adhering to corporate branding and style guidelines.
  • Fundamental knowledge of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and creating accessible documents such as PDFs and Word files.
  • Experience creating high-standard creative projects for large corporations or governmental bodies.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and effective time management.
  • Capability to oversee multiple projects and adapt swiftly to changing demands.
  • Strong communication skills with a client-focused mindset.

Desirable Attributes

  • At least five years of professional experience in graphic design, visual communication, digital, or creative design disciplines.
  • A tertiary degree in Graphic Design or related fields, or equivalent industry experience.
  • Familiarity with Queensland Government policies and operational processes.
