Role Overview
NETGEAR invites graduate software engineers to join its Mobile Engineering team in Cork. This role focuses on developing the next generation of native mobile applications that enable millions of users to connect with their NETGEAR devices. As a member of the team, you will contribute to the full product lifecycle, from gathering requirements to building, testing, and releasing software, and analyzing production data.
Engineers handle their projects end to end, ensuring quality and reliability while gaining trust and advancing their responsibilities rapidly. The team operates on a hybrid model, requiring at least three days per week onsite to facilitate collaboration and learning.
Main Responsibilities
- Implement features in native Android (Kotlin) and iOS (Swift) apps, managing the process from task assignment to release.
- Ensure software quality through functional quality assurance, regression testing, and release validation.
- Conduct tests on actual devices to verify setup workflows, error handling, and edge cases from a user perspective.
- Develop and maintain automated unit, integration, and UI tests to prevent recurring bugs.
- Embrace an AI-first development approach by utilizing intelligent coding assistants for planning, coding, testing, reviewing, and refactoring.
- Contribute to automation by enhancing CI/CD pipelines, build tools, and release automation workflows.
- Diagnose and optimize app performance using crash, analytics, and production performance data.
- Integrate APIs, SDKs, and cloud services to power app capabilities.
- Participate actively in agile ceremonies, code reviews, and feedback exchange.
- Adapt to release requirements, performing testing, build fixes, scripting, or specification tasks as needed.
Benefits and Growth Opportunities
- Hands-on experience creating and deploying native Android and iOS applications utilized by millions globally.
- Ownership of product quality facilitating accelerated trust and expanded responsibilities.
- In-depth knowledge of mobile software architectures, UI frameworks, and platform APIs.
- Exposure to modern DevOps practices including CI/CD and automated testing.
- Proficiency in AI-assisted development using tools like Claude Code, Copilot, and ChatGPT.
- Structured onboarding with mentorship and a planned development track for the first year.
- Opportunities for career progression within NETGEAR’s global engineering network.
Candidate Requirements
- Completion of a Level 8 honours degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or related fields by November 2026.
- Demonstrable coding ability through academic projects, internships, personal applications, open source contributions, or hackathons.
- Strong attention to quality, discerning user experience issues beyond automated test failures.
- Interest in AI-augmented development and adaptability to evolving development tools.
- Proactive mindset, taking initiative to support release tasks without waiting for assignment.
- Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Good problem-solving abilities, meticulousness, and cooperative attitude.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with native mobile development: Kotlin and Jetpack Compose for Android or Swift and SwiftUI for iOS.
- Having published an app on any platform.
- Exposure to cross-platform mobile frameworks like React Native or Flutter.
- Familiarity with Git version control, continuous integration/deployment, or test automation.
- Understanding of REST APIs and fundamental mobile architectures such as MVC or MVVM.
- Interest in networked applications, IoT, or device connectivity.
