Role Overview
The Global Director of General Ledger oversees the global Record-to-Report cycle, ensuring accurate, timely, and standardized financial records across all company entities and countries. This role manages the monthly and year-end closings, journal entry governance, account reconciliations, intercompany transactions, fixed asset accounting, and consolidation activities, including integration of acquired companies.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the entire global Record-to-Report process encompassing close calendar coordination, journal entry protocols, account reconciliations, accruals, allocations, intercompany accounting, fixed assets, and consolidation tasks.
- Develop and enforce global GL policies, account ownership standards, reconciliation templates, close checklists, certification obligations, and quality assurance procedures.
- Provide expert guidance on technical accounting, ensure compliance with evolving accounting standards, and implement necessary changes across the organization.
- Lead close activities monthly and annually across multiple countries and shared service centers, ensuring adherence to deadlines, review policies, issue escalation pathways, and reporting requirements.
- Maintain oversight on organizational chart of accounts, legal entity structures, departmental coding, cost centers, intercompany accounts, and reporting attributes.
- Collaborate with Financial Planning & Analysis teams to align reported results with management reporting needs, KPI tracking, profitability analysis, and decision-making support.
- Support tax and audit functions by ensuring accurate, timely financial data, reconciliations, and necessary documentation are available for compliance and audit purposes.
- Facilitate acquisition integrations by mapping ledgers, standardizing charts of accounts, assisting with opening balance sheets, streamlining close processes, and harmonizing accounting policies.
- Enhance controls over manual journal entries, reconciliations, account ownership, recurring entries, intercompany settlements, fixed assets, accruals, and close certifications to strengthen financial governance.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance is required; professional certifications such as CPA, ACCA, ACA, CIMA, CMA, or equivalents are preferred.
- At least 8 years of experience in accounting functions including general ledger management, controllership, consolidation, or record-to-report processes, with leadership experience in multi-entity and multinational environments.
- Strong technical accounting expertise with the ability to apply standards to complex and non-routine transactions is advantageous.
- Familiarity with ERP systems, close management tools, multi-currency accounting, intercompany workflows, acquisition integrations, and internal control frameworks is desirable.
