Job description
About the Role
Energy Aspects provides energy and commodity intelligence trusted by leading global traders, producers, and financial institutions. Our geospatial team transforms satellite and radar imagery into quantifiable indicators of real-world energy activities, such as storage capacities, industrial outputs, emission levels, infrastructure changes, and wildfire risks.
This entry-level position focuses on producing accurately annotated imagery that feeds machine learning models essential for generating these signals. No prior experience in remote sensing is necessary as comprehensive training will be provided on satellite and radar image interpretation, sensor types, and annotation tools. The role demands precision, patience, and the ability to consistently apply detailed labeling standards across large volumes of imagery.
Responsibilities
- Accurately annotate satellite and radar images according to set labeling protocols, including identification, classification of features, objects, activities, and tracking changes over time through image sequences.
- Maintain quality and throughput targets; annotations are regularly assessed for accuracy against reference datasets and consistency within the team, with ongoing feedback from leadership.
- Flag ambiguous or out-of-guideline imagery for escalation, integrating these cases constructively as part of daily work.
- Suggest improvements to annotation guidelines based on observations of edge cases.
- Support the induction and review of work completed by newer team members as experience grows.
- Contribute to related tasks such as building reference sets, reviewing historical annotations, and participating in model assessment during slower periods.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Graduate degree in any field or an equivalent qualification; backgrounds in science, geography, mathematics, or engineering are advantageous.
- Good spatial reasoning skills, including an understanding of geometry concepts like shape, distance, angle, scale, and coordinates.
- Exceptional attention to detail with strong visual discrimination capabilities.
- Proficient written English able to follow technical instructions and clearly document unusual cases.
- Competent with software usage beyond basic computer literacy and able to quickly learn specialized annotation platforms.
- Capability to maintain accuracy during repetitive, high-volume tasks.
- Ability to work independently managing assigned workload and collaboratively within a team environment.
Desired Attributes
- Experience or exposure to GIS, remote sensing, photo interpretation, or image annotation software.
- Basic knowledge of digital imagery concepts like resolution, bit depth, and spectral bands.
- Understanding of different sensor types, especially optical and radar, and how they influence image appearance.
- Interest in the energy and commodities market; familiarity with energy infrastructure data or earth observation is considered a plus.
