About the Role
Saint Mary's University invites applications for two permanent full-time General Worker positions within the Facilities Management department. These evening roles, affiliated with Bargaining Unit 179, offer a compensation of $21.54 per hour. Reporting to the Custodial Manager, successful candidates will contribute to maintaining clean, safe, and well-maintained campus areas.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform cleaning tasks across various campus locations including offices, classrooms, public spaces, residences, food service and athletic facilities, and washrooms.
- Disinfect and dust assigned areas to maintain hygiene standards.
- Maintain floors (carpeted and hard surfaces) using proper equipment and techniques.
- Clean chalkboards and whiteboards as needed.
- Collect waste and recycling materials throughout campus.
- Prepare residence rooms for use by students and conference guests.
- Carry out general housekeeping chores ensuring tidiness and order.
- Set up rooms and equipment for campus events and functions.
- Relocate furniture and equipment to support operational needs.
- Report maintenance issues, necessary repairs, and safety concerns promptly to Supervisors or Coordinators.
- Maintain custodial tools and equipment in good working order.
- Stay up-to-date with custodial procedures and safety protocols through ongoing training.
Qualifications and Experience
- Completion of Grade 11 or equivalent high school education.
- A minimum of three months experience in a cleaning role within institutions of comparable size or with a professional cleaning company.
- Ability to work cooperatively as part of a team and independently with minimal oversight.
- Effective and positive communication skills to engage with colleagues and campus community members.
- Initiative and reliability in completing assigned tasks.
- Strong commitment to safety, adhering strictly to health and safety legislation and workplace protocols to prevent injury and damage.
