General Ledger Associate

Role Overview

This position reports directly to the Financial Control Manager, Country CFO, General Manager, and the Regional Office’s Financial Control Department. The key focus is to manage accounting, taxation, and banking operations for a shipping agency, a domestic service entity, and carrier representation. Responsibilities include supporting local teams and management in handling financial issues, spearheading group initiatives, and delivering precise financial updates to the Management, Regional, and Head Offices.

Qualifications & Experience

Candidates must hold a degree in Finance, Accounting, or Taxation, accompanied by an MBA or CPA certification. A minimum of 10 years’ professional experience is required, including at least 3 years in the shipping or logistics industry.

Technical Skills

Required expertise includes audit or consultancy experience, fluency in English with effective communication skills, and advanced proficiency in MS Excel, PowerPoint, and project management tools. Familiarity with Oracle and SAP accounting software will be considered advantageous.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage general ledger accounting, tax duties, and carrier representation tasks while collaborating with finance teams locally, regionally, and globally.
• Supervise monthly accounting closures, ensuring bank reconciliations, payment collections, and accruals are accurate.
• Prepare financial statements in accordance with local GAAP, IFRS, and international accounting standards.
• Track and analyze performance against key metrics and lead the annual budgeting process.
• Manage treasury activities including cash flow analysis, and coordinate with bankers on overseas payments and currency risk.
• Lead tax risk management, advisory, planning, and ensure compliance by timely filing and coordinating tax audits with authorities.
• Provide tax consulting aimed at reducing risks and executing tax-saving measures.
• Oversee major projects such as SAP direct posting implementation and branch deregistration.
• Introduce revenue enhancement, cost reduction, and operational efficiency initiatives aligned with company goals.
• Coach and mentor the finance team to enhance performance.
• Maintain strong internal controls, compliance with laws and group policies, and lead audit engagements.
• Consolidate financial reports, conduct variance analyses, and challenge stakeholders to optimize operational expenses and revenues.
