Position Overview
Step into the growing recycling industry as a Yard Operator, also referred to as a General Hand, at the Christchurch facility. This role suits those who prefer practical, hands-on involvement within a committed team environment. Responsibilities span multiple yard-related tasks supporting sustainable resource recovery and efficient operations.
Primary Responsibilities
- Efficiently load and unload trucks, trailers, and bins.
- Operate forklifts and other yard machinery safely.
- Sort and inspect various ferrous and non-ferrous metals for processing.
- Assist with purchasing and receival of recyclable inputs.
- Maintain cleanliness and orderly appearance of the site.
- Implement health, safety, environmental, and operational protocols rigorously.
- Identify and report hazards to support a safety-first culture.
- Deliver courteous and professional customer and supplier service.
- Collaborate with team members on additional yard duties as necessary.
Candidate Profile
- Must hold a valid Forklift Licence.
- Demonstrated commitment to workplace health and safety standards.
- Dependable and proactive work ethic.
- Strong attention to detail and eagerness to learn metal grading and identification.
- Physically fit and comfortable working outdoors in variable conditions.
- Excellent teamwork and a positive, can-do attitude.
- Effective communication and customer service skills.
