Role Summary
The General Hand at Reddam House North Shore plays a vital part in maintaining the premises, ensuring buildings, grounds, and all equipment are well-preserved. This creates a safe, orderly, and attractive environment suitable for the school’s community. Responsibilities include general handyman duties, event support, traffic control during busy periods, and maintaining operational readiness to foster a positive and effective learning space.
Key Duties
- Manage vehicle and pedestrian flow during drop-off and pick-up hours to guarantee safety and smooth traffic.
- Assist in setting up technology and logistics for school functions such as assemblies, presentations, and exams, ensuring all equipment is operational.
- Conduct daily facility inspections to spot and fix any issues regarding lighting, signage, or safety features to assure daily operational integrity.
- Upkeep of school grounds including sports field marking and maintenance of groundskeeping tools and machinery.
- Undertake building repairs and maintenance proactively, addressing hygiene and safety issues and aiding inspection processes.
- Manage the storage, movement, and maintenance of school furniture and equipment effectively.
- Monitor safety concerns, assist with building security tasks, and perform building access control checks consistently.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and collaborate closely with staff to support school activities with timely and effective setups.
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Previous relevant work experience in maintenance, handyman, or groundskeeping roles, ideally within educational environments.
- Strong knowledge of health and safety guidelines related to facility management.
- Experienced in operating gardening and repair machinery and tools.
- Familiarity with facilities management software and record keeping.
- Good communication skills and the ability to collaborate with contractors and school personnel.
- Capable of working independently while managing multiple priorities and also functioning as a team member.
- Qualified or willing to obtain traffic control certification.
- Knowledge of AV system setup and troubleshooting is an advantage.
