Role Overview
We are seeking a driven and technically inquisitive AI Engineer to join our AI team on a permanent full-time basis. In this key hands-on role, you will collaborate closely with end-users and internal teams to create and implement LLM-driven automation solutions that deliver practical commercial benefits.
Integrated into a focused, impactful team of experts pioneering AI applications in energy and commodities trading, you'll develop agentic workflows, build AI Skills and Multi-Channel Processing systems using state-of-the-art models, and directly address business challenges with innovative AI technology.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with users across trading, operations, and support units to identify automation potentials and craft customized LLM-based workflow solutions.
- Design, prototype, and refine agent-oriented AI workflows targeting real business use cases.
- Create production-quality prompts, AI Skills, and multi-channel processing components.
- Maintain ongoing engagement with stakeholders to collect input and continually improve solutions.
- Translate business requirements into precise technical specifications, detailed designs, and actionable delivery plans for solution development, integration, and deployment.
- Contribute to team knowledge sharing with clear, thorough documentation of your work.
Qualifications and Experience
- Degree in a technical discipline such as Computer Science, Engineering, or Mathematics, combined with 3 to 5 years of experience in software, data, or AI engineering roles.
- Proficient in Python, with strong skills writing clean, modular, and well-documented code aligned with engineering best practices.
- Deep understanding of AI and large language models (LLMs), including practical experience with prompting techniques and agentic patterns like tool utilization, function calling, or multi-channel processing.
- Experience with Git version control and containerisation concepts including Docker.
- Exposure to modern full-stack development methodologies.
- Ability to communicate effectively and engage with non-technical stakeholders to accurately gather requirements.
- A strong propensity for quickly learning new subject areas and asking insightful questions.
- An active curiosity about AI advancements and a commitment to continual experimentation and skill growth.
- Interest in commodities markets, global energy flows, and trading commercial dynamics, with a willingness to develop domain expertise.
Desirable Skills and Attributes
- Self-motivated and organised, managing priorities independently with minimal supervision.
- Experience delivering products or managing projects, including side projects.
- Builder mindset favoring practical implementation over discussion.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Experience in building MCP servers/clients, retrieval-augmented generation pipelines, or multi-agent AI systems.
- Expertise in prompt engineering and reusing AI Skills.
- Familiarity with cloud service providers such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
- Knowledge or interest in quantitative finance and derivatives markets.
- Background in LLM benchmarking or evaluation projects.
Additional Information
- Work within an approachable, flat organisation where contributions and ideas are valued.
