About the Role
We are seeking an exceptional Game Design Director to lead the Star Trek Fleet Command team in Dublin on a hybrid working basis. Visa sponsorship and relocation support are provided for candidates from any location. Star Trek Fleet Command is a top-grossing 4X MMO launched in 2018, and we are now driving its next phase by redefining traditional 4X gameplay through innovative design.
Primary Responsibilities
- Lead the content design pipeline, managing designers and live operations specialists to craft compelling player experiences.
- Guide teams through the creative process to deliver on the game's vision and meet player and product goals.
- Mentor and manage designers focusing on system and economy design to raise quality and engagement.
- Cultivate a high-performing, collaborative department culture via leadership and team development.
- Shape design standards and processes to exceed player expectations consistently.
- Collaborate with design leadership to shape the future of the game economy.
- Work cross-functionally with designers, product managers, analysts, and engineers to implement genre-advancing features.
- Use data analysis, player feedback, and personal playtesting to assess and improve performance.
- Plan content scalability and system integrity for long-term live operations.
Candidate Profile
- Minimum 5 years of leadership experience in game design.
- Expertise in free-to-play (F2P) systems design and player progression modeling.
- At least 8 years designing systems or economies for live F2P games, preferably within MMO, 4X, or strategy genres.
- Proven mastery of complex F2P game economies.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and manage design teams effectively.
- Track record delivering clear creative direction and constructive managerial feedback.
- Comprehensive game design knowledge including concept development, progression, UI, monetization, and retention strategies.
- Ability to interpret key performance indicators and data to guide design teams.
- Proficient in spreadsheet tools, balancing game power curves, pacing, and resource management.
- Experience in cross-functional collaboration within live production settings.
- Positive, thoughtful, and cooperative approach to game development.
Desirable Extras
- Deep familiarity with the 4X genre and F2P 4X game design.
- Knowledge of SQL, scripting, or simulation software.
- Passion for Star Trek, sci-fi, or strategically complex social games.
- Experience working on alliance or cooperative systems in large-scale games.
