Job description

About ALYRT

ALYRT is dedicated to empowering one million small and medium enterprises worldwide by providing cashflow support critical for their survival and growth. Based in New Zealand, ALYRT is an AI-driven operational intelligence platform designed for SMEs and their advisors. It integrates live banking, accounting, and diverse business data sources, then applies artificial intelligence combined with real financial expertise to deliver forward-looking cashflow insights and actionable recommendations for business owners.

Founded by an insolvency practitioner aware of how visibility issues cause SME failures, ALYRT aims to be a proactive solution rather than a reactive service. The company is currently part of the Ministry of Awesome's Founder Catalyst programme and is expanding globally.

Role Overview

This position marks the company’s first in-house engineering role. The existing product is operational with an active user base. The new engineer will take full ownership of the platform, oversee the transition from our current development partner, and collaborate closely with founders Larissa and Luke to shape ALYRT's future growth and technical roadmap.

The role involves a broad scope, including making architectural decisions, working across product development, handling integrations, and managing production challenges. The engineer will influence whether to retain, rebuild, or redesign components as the product scales.

Technical Stack

  • Next.js and TypeScript
  • Supabase / Postgres databases
  • Vercel deployment platform
  • GitLab with Continuous Integration (CI) workflows
  • Multiple external banking, accounting, and data integrations
  • Multi-LLM AI architecture utilizing Claude, Grok, and other models

AI is integral to ALYRT’s functioning, leveraging multiple large language models for enhanced reliability and capability, avoiding reliance on a single provider.

Candidate Profile

Successful candidates are those who enjoy engaging in architectural discussions and resolving production issues promptly. They demonstrate decisiveness amid uncertainty, prioritize data accuracy over superficial interface correctness, and appreciate the critical nature of the financial information displayed to users, which directly impacts vital business decisions.

Expected Milestones in First Four Months

  • Smooth transition of platform development in-house
  • Comprehensive understanding of platform architecture and data flow
  • Visibility and control over development priorities and technical debt
  • Reliable and efficient release processes
  • Customers actively engaging with features personally designed and deployed

Qualifications

  • Extensive full-stack engineering experience, particularly with TypeScript and Next.js
  • Proven track record designing and maintaining production-ready systems
  • Experience integrating third-party APIs and managing imperfect real-world data
  • Hands-on expertise building large language models and AI-based systems
  • Sound engineering judgment with consistent delivery of reliable production code
  • Confident ownership mentality without requiring detailed directions
  • Effective problem-solving skills and ability to explain technical trade-offs to founders and customers
  • Bonus: experience in fintech, SaaS, accounting technology, or financial data systems (not mandatory)

Why Join ALYRT Now?

This opportunity provides a foundational role enabling significant influence over product, engineering, and company development as ALYRT scales globally from its origins in New Zealand. The role is more than a typical engineering job; it represents a founding position within the business.

Application Instructions

Interested candidates should reach out directly to Larissa or Luke at ALYRT with a story about a system they have rescued—something broken, disorganized, or failing—and how they successfully restored it. Sharing a turnaround experience is highly encouraged.
