About Halter
Halter is revolutionizing agricultural practices by empowering farmers and graziers to operate more efficiently and sustainably. Their technology enables cattle to move calmly under their own direction without traditional constraints such as quad bikes, dogs, or fences — a transformative approach to grazing management currently in use worldwide. The company is backed by top-tier investors and is driven by a culture that values intellectual rigor, relentless effort, and a commitment to impactful change.
Role Overview
As Halter embarks on a new product initiative that integrates hardware, software, AI, and complex agricultural environments, this founding engineer position offers an opportunity for substantial ownership. The role demands pioneering an entirely new product from conception to market fit, operating extensively on farms to validate and iterate prototypes in real-world conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead full-stack development by designing and owning core product features end-to-end, rapidly iterating across backend and frontend systems to deliver value.
- Take architectural ownership by setting foundational technical frameworks and engineering standards that will scale with organizational growth.
- Leverage AI tools daily to architect, build, and debug software across various technology layers.
- Conduct farm visits regularly to test hypotheses, validate prototypes, and gather critical insights to refine the product direction.
Candidate Profile
- Strong full-stack and backend coding skills prioritized over years of experience.
- Deep curiosity, customer-oriented mindset, bias toward action, and quick learning capabilities.
- High ownership combined with humility; willing to tackle tasks ranging from debugging to hands-on data labeling.
- Adept at navigating ambiguity and committed to collaborative, long-term success.
- Proficient user of AI development tools for daily software engineering activities.
- Willingness and ability to travel frequently to agricultural sites.
Benefits and Culture
- Nutritious snacks and beverages available daily.
- Health support through partnership with Southern Cross Health Insurance.
- Comprehensive parental leave benefits, including paid primary and secondary caregiver leave.
- Annual $1000 budget dedicated to personal development opportunities.
- Unlimited paid annual leave and additional wellness leave for work-life balance.
- Competitive salary package complemented by employee stock ownership options.
- Office-first work culture emphasizing interpersonal connections, mutual trust, and flexible arrangements when necessary.
Additional Information
Halter embraces diversity and inclusion, encouraging applications from candidates who may not meet every listed criterion but believe they can contribute significantly. The company offers an engaging, challenging environment with exceptional colleagues committed to meaningful innovation in agriculture.
