Job description
About Sterling
Sterling is an AI-driven assistant designed to automate repetitive accounting tasks, allowing finance professionals to concentrate on delivering greater value. We recently secured a $3.8 million seed funding round led by Blackbird, with investors including key players behind Xero, Trade Me, Pushpay, and Vend.
Role Overview
This is a unique accounting position that transcends traditional roles. Instead of isolated journal processing or routine month-end procedures, you'll engage with various finance teams across regions including New Zealand, Australia, the US, and the UK to implement Sterling, streamline processes, and identify opportunities where AI can enhance financial workflows.
Key Responsibilities
- Guide customers through Sterling onboarding by collaborating directly with Financial Controllers, Finance Managers, and CFOs.
- Analyze existing finance functions, assist with configuration, and support the adoption of Sterling's workflows.
- Serve as a trusted consultant bridging accounting expertise and technology application.
- Identify and refine inefficient financial processes to improve operational performance.
- Contribute product feedback by reporting challenges, designing features based on user needs, and enhancing Sterling’s functionality.
- Establish scalable systems for customer onboarding, implementation, and support as the company expands.
Candidate Profile
- Proven accounting background, ideally with Chartered Accountant (CA) qualification or an equivalent certification.
- Strong understanding of real-world finance team operations beyond documented procedures.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills needed to build trust and clarify complex topics.
- Legally authorized to work and reside in New Zealand, with availability to work a hybrid schedule at our offices in Auckland or Wellington (remote-only or overseas candidates will not be considered).
- Highly organised, capable of managing priorities independently without daily supervision.
- Interest and enthusiasm for technology and AI applications in finance, asking critical questions to improve processes.
- Adaptable mindset suited to a fast-paced startup environment, embracing change and experimentation.
Preferred Experience
- Background in finance teams within various industries.
- Experience with business process improvement or systems implementations.
- Familiarity with ERP or financial systems projects, particularly with Enterprise ERP solutions like Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations, Acumatica, Netsuite, Sage, etc.
- Customer-facing roles and previous startup involvement are advantageous.
Compensation and Benefits
We offer a competitive salary with possible equity for suitable candidates. You will work closely with the founding team, significantly influencing both product direction and company progress. This is a prime opportunity to join an emerging company experiencing rapid growth and to participate in transformative innovations in finance technology.
