Job Overview
This role is responsible for overseeing and managing daily activities related to joinery, carpentry, modular furniture, and interior fit-out works. The Foreman ensures tasks are executed following detailed drawings, quality benchmarks, production deadlines, and safety protocols. Leading the workshop or site team, the Foreman delegates work, tracks progress, and guarantees timely completion of projects.
Primary Duties
- Direct and coordinate the daily operations of carpenters, joiners, and fit-out personnel.
- Assign work tasks considering production priorities, worker expertise, and workload balancing.
- Supervise fabrication and installation of woodwork, modular components, and interior elements.
- Interpret technical drawings, specifications, and instructions for all related works.
- Ensure precise measurement, cutting, assembly, finishing, and installation quality standards are met.
- Monitor and confirm accuracy and compliance of completed work against approved standards.
- Liaise with Production, Design, Engineering, and other departments to address and resolve operational issues.
- Verify availability of required materials, tools, and equipment prior to job commencement.
- Manage material consumption efficiently, aiming to reduce waste.
- Identify defects or deviations, enforcing corrections promptly.
- Mentor team members to uphold superior workmanship and effective work methods.
- Maintain a well-organized, safe work environment, ensuring proper upkeep of tools and machinery.
- Enforce safety guidelines and personal protective equipment (PPE) use among employees.
- Maintain team discipline and productivity levels consistently.
- Report daily progress, manpower needs, material demands, and production challenges to supervisors.
- Respond to urgent production requests to meet critical deadlines.
- Coordinate with other trades during interior fit-out work to prevent workflow disruptions.
- Undertake additional tasks related to joinery and carpentry activities as requested by management.
Qualifications and Experience
Candidates should have a minimum of four years’ experience in joinery or carpentry, ideally within marine, yacht, furniture manufacturing, or high-end interior fit-out sectors. Prior roles as Charge Hand, Supervisor, or Foreman in relevant settings are essential. A solid practical understanding of joinery, carpentry, modular furniture, and fit-out processes is required, alongside the ability to lead a skilled team effectively.
